The Vitus comes equipped with a race ready single ring set up built around the SRAM Rival 1 Hydro groupset that combines a wide ratio cassette with a single ring X-SYNC 40t chainring. Rival hydraulic disc brakes, a Tubeless-Ready WTB Frequency CX Team/Novatec wheelset and a Vitus finishing kit complete the package.

The Energie frameset features a High-Modulus T700 HM-UD Carbon construction for superior strength to weight. Full internal cable routing has been specifically designed to prevent ingress of mud and water and to increase comfort when shouldering the bike during racing.

The rear axle configuration is adaptable from 142mm x 12mm through axle to 135mm x QR via interchangeable dropouts which can be purchased separately.

So once again the Ridley X Night brings that winning tradition to your doorstep with top-tier design and components built to compete at even the highest levels of the sport.

Ridley equipped this build with Sram’s venerable Force 1 drivetrain and powerful Force 1 hydraulic disc brakes for precise gear changes and confident stopping power. It’s 42t chainring pairs with an 11-28t cassette to provide exceptional mid-range gearing options suitable for almost any terrain. To round things out, Ridley also employs 4ZA’s Cirrus Pro T30 rims laced to DT Swiss 350 hubs roll wrapped in a set of versatile Clement MXP Tubular tires for solid traction across a wide variety of course conditions.

The X-Knight SL material comes from a mix of 30T and 24T high modulus carbon fiber. This is similar to that found in its cobble-stone conquering Fenix frameset, so it sops up fatiguing vibrations and tenaciously transfers every watt into forward motion for a fast yet cushy ride worthy of even the harshest race conditions. Its internal cable routing makes for a clean, streamlined look, with the added bonus of eliminating pesky cable pinches when shouldering your bike up a steep wall of limestone stairs. Classic European cyclocross geometry gives the X-Night SL a fast, aggressive feel while its wide tire clearance accommodates rubber for tackling everything from snowy Northeast mud to dry West Coast dirt and challenge for the win.

At the front, the X Knight with its Oryx carbon fiber fork, which helps to reduce stress out on the course. It boasts a 12mm thru-axle for a solid, stable ride even when navigating tight, twisty elevation changes and a barely noticeable asymmetry that counters the extra torsional forces applied to the left fork leg when scrubbing speed. The dropouts include stainless steel inserts to protect the carbon from scratches and a scuff plate on the inside of the left fork leg fends off errant disc during frantic mid-race wheel changes to keep the fork free of unwanted wear. This means more fun in the mud, and less time worrying about the integrity of your bike’s front end.

If you spent last autumn clanging cowbells and cheering on your friends, and this year you’re jumping into the fray with Ridley’s Cyclocross Bike. Aluminum frame builds at this price point usually come outfitted with more entry level components, but the Ridley X-Ride goes big outfitted with SRAM’s 1by drivetrain and hydraulic brakes, which can be found gracing the machines of many a pro on the international circuit. Adding in DT Swiss wheels and Clement’s renowned MXP tires, this X-Ride arrives ready to tackle all the twisting grass fields, loose sandpits, and leaf-shrouded single track the local promoter can throw your way.

Ridley fashions the setup from triple butted 7005-T6 alloy with seat-stays carefully shaped to mop up energy-zapping vibrations out on the course. The Belgian Ridley brand also incorporates internal cable routing along the frame for crisp, clean lines that eliminate annoying cable pinches when grabbing the top tube to navigate a set of barriers or shouldering the bike for a long slog through the sand. Race-driven Ridley geometry paired with wide tire clearance means this bike is roaring to go fast, with ample clearance for mud-caked tires if the clouds roll in and you find yourself navigating a sloppy mess.

The bike is made from Ridley’s 24t high-modulus carbon fiber that seamlessly transfers power into forward motion while soaking up jarring vibrations. MASON TO FUN!

 

One of several 2017 Diamondback mountain bikes to catch our astute attention this year is the upcoming ride from the Northwest crowd of designers, the Diamondback Mason. It appears mountain bikes are getting more and more diverse by the minute with their frame and suspension engineering developments. We are just beginning to see creative ideas to push the envelope of traditional design with big wheel bikes and the Mason Pro 27.5 Plus ride shown above will be one of a handful of long travel hardtails for the upcoming summer.

The head engineers at Diamondback felt strongly that they needed a bigger wheel offering that was a bit more capable of handling all of what their local terrain is about, which means it more often than not can be aggressive while at the same time mucky and wet. Which is ultimately where this Diamondback All Mountain hardtail bike actually derived from.

The newest DB ride based out of the Northwest region, also features an All Mountain 6061-T6 Weapons Grade Aluminum frame, in which they supplemented with an additional hydro-formed top tube, along with a formed and butted down tube, to make sure it’s not only stout, but shaves grams off of where it’s not needed. It also uses a tapered head tube, a direct mount front derailleur mount, ISCG tabs and a 148x12mm Boost Spec Dropouts, w/ Replaceable Hanger.

To say the least, this Mason rig is low slung and slack — developed for the modern day shredder out there who needs plenty of efficiency on the uphill pedal sections, but also has the freedom to charge it hard down off the other side with what ever aggressiveness is needed to roll it out at the bottom and do it all over again, lap after lap. The Mason is a departure from the norm with a really slack 66.5° head angle and 16.77 inch chain-stays. They were able to get a lower center of gravity on the bike as well. Making for a purposeful bike both riding up as well as ripping down fast and furious.

The Mason is definitely less cross country style than most of the hardtail models available, having a long-travel Fox 130mm fork to not only soak up any rough element but to make for an easier go at popping the front end up. The Pro all-mountain bike will retail for $2,800 USD for total bike. (but discounted below, while supplies last)
All-mountain Plus Frame
The 6061-T6 DB alloy frame, is available with a Red finish w/sweet graphics design and four total sizes: small 15.5″, medium 17″, large 19″, x-large 21″.

Component Specs

The Mason ride was developed to be priced right. First item up is the Fox 34 Float Performance 130mm fork to serve well to the AM crowd up front. The second item is the Race Face Aeffect 11 speed cranks that are matched with a single 30t ring combined with a bash guard. Those were then combined with Sram’s new X1 rear derailleur with the matching X1 trigger shifter, while the 11-speed 10-42t cassette, gives you a hardtail to do it all. They have thrown in some DB Blanchard 38R, Tubeless Compatible, 32h rims that are built up with sealed-cartridge-bearing hubs to make for a super strong, but yet light enough weight wheelset to climb with ease. The Shimano Deore M615 disc brakes employ 180mm rotors to provide more than enough power to stop in a hurry. They also specified a KS LEV Integra dropper post that comes with a bar remote, with Race Face’s Ãeffect, 760mm Wide bar and stem to complete the bike build out.

The original Ragley Bluepig hardcore hardtail made out of steel just got better! In case you are not familiar with the Ragley range, the Bluepig is the Steel version of their Alloy Mmmbop. First launched back in 2008, the original Bluepig defined what a modern Steel hardtail frame should be: Strong, light and adaptable with confidence inspiring geometry that is huge fun to ride!

Building on the success of the original, they wanted the new Bluepig to keep the soul of the old frame by retaining as many of the original features as possible: It is still made from custom triple butted 4130 Chromoly Steel and features classic Ragley attributes such as: 44mm headtube, 3 Finger Bridge, Taperlite seat tube and chainstay mounted disc brake caliper. To bring the frame right up to date we have added a whole host of new features such as 27.5” wheel compatibility, a stiffer bolt through rear end using exchangeable dropouts which will allow you to run whichever standard you desire (142x12m or QR), better tyre & stand-over clearance and stealth dropper compatibility.

The updated Bluepig trail geometry has been designed from the ground up for the new 27.5” wheel size: dropping the bottom bracket to an aggressive 305mm. They loved the 425mm chainstay length on the old frame so much that they redesigned the 3 finger bridge to make clearance for the bigger wheels without the need for longer stays. When matched with a 150mm fork and a short stem, the 64˚ head angle (66˚ in the Sag), low BB, bigger wheels and revised geometry result in a long, low and planted feeling Bluepig bike with improved handling, rollover and grip to really inspire confidence at speed; especially over steep and technical terrain.

The Bluepig is a blend of DH stability and uphill tenacity. It will descend and climb with such contradiction that you will be left scratching your head! It is at home on any terrain but happiest when ridden hard, roosting turns and hammering the descents! From tearing up your local singletrack, back country adventures in the middle of nowhere, smashing out runs in the Alps or racing Enduro; it will take whatever you can throw at it!

Sitting on 27.5” wheels and using 160mm of travel to slay technical terrain, the Defcon series of bikes reign supreme over the all-mountain enduro scene. Utilizing Jamis’ proven mp4 suspension for pedaling efficiency, with modern geometry and top-level suspension to tackle bigger hits and aggressive descents at higher speeds. This progressive suspension design delivers plush rear wheel traction while still resisting bottom out. Rear thru-axles, short chainstays and roomy front centers provide stiffness, quick cornering and playful handling. If you want to do it all, fast, this is the bike.

The leverage exerted by the Defcon mp4 suspension is progressive. There are multiple benefits to a more progressive suspension system. The rear shock can be tuned more linearly for a smoother, more plush ride without bottoming. Because the rear shock can be pumped to lower air pressures without performance detriment, shock and seal life are optimized and a greater range of adjustability is available. The custom frame tubes on the Defcon are made by SPF Air Forming. SPF is carried out at high air temperatures, where the tube structure is in its most ‘plastic’ and formable state. This allows more complicated shapes to be produced that cannot be made using traditional forming techniques. For example, whereas shape designs can be applied to 25% of the tube using hydroforming, SPF allows up to 90% manipulation. The result: more optimized shapes and less weight.

The Shimano Deore 2×10 speed drivetrain will provide you with smooth and accurate shifts over its 11-36t cassette that provides plenty of gear range to let you spin up tough climbs and charge the downhills. X-Fusion suspension gobbles up nasty singletrack. External compression and rebound adjusters let you dial in the perfect ride. The Defcon 3 rolls fast and smooth on WTB wheels that are wrapped in Vittoria Goma and Morsa tires for superior traction and control in a variety of conditions. Topping off the Decon 3’s build is a cockpit by Loaded and KS dropper post.

The 2016 SB5C is an ostensible pioneer in a new wave of Super Bikes. In a progressive effort to develop the best trail bike imaginable, Yeti chose to completely revamp their rear pivot system. Their new Switch Infinity technology combines the best of both worlds: creating a bike for trail riders who go big and downhill riders looking for a more ‘enduro’ riding style. The platform brings with it a new generation of technology that has truly never been seen on mountain bikes before.

Aside from its sleek lines and beautiful performance-bred details, the suspension design of the bike is its crowning feature. Creating a radically redesigned, completely new suspension platform was no easy task. For four years, Yeti worked side-by-side with the engineers at Fox Racing to develop the new Switch Infinity suspension system. Functionally, the motion is similar to the older Switch design, but by moving away from a rotating eccentric pivot, Yeti was able to design a link with an “infinite” length, eliminating the feeling of the suspension bottoming out. Essentially, the rear suspension changes its wheel direction by translating vertical motion into horizontal motion on a pivot that suspends on two vertical, Kashima-coated stanchions, that Yeti calls a “rail”. As the suspension compresses, the rear wheel moves upwards and outwards. The benefits are multi-fold. Switch Infinity infuses the proven big-hit capabilities of their 303 Rail Technology with the pedaling efficiency of the previous Switch system to produce a smoother, lighter, and stiffer rear end, whilst still possessing the climbing prowess and small bump compliance of the original Switch system. This new rail interface eliminates the need to worry about air pressure or oil levels, making the Switch Infinity system virtually maintenance-free. Topping it all off, Switch Infinity is 100 grams lighter in weight than the previous Switch design.

SB5 Carbon

The new SB5C frame features legendary Yeti trail bike geometry (long top tube, low bottom bracket, and slack head angle) and is constructed of high modulus carbon fiber. It utilizes a slightly different carbon layup than the SB-5C’s that adds 300 grams but delivers a pure all-mountain bike at a great value. This frame design paired with the climbing characteristics of the new Switch Infinity technology will result in a 5” travel trail bike that knows no boundaries, confidently slaying downhill and flying uphill like there’s no tomorrow. This bike is for the rider who wants to climb fast, descend faster, and stay railed in every corner.

Yeti SB5 Carbon XT Jenson

The custom Jenson XT build utilizes a Shimano XT 1×11 drivetrain. This very capable groupset includes the iconic shifter, rear derailleur and a 10-46 cassette, via Shimano. The Race Face Aeffect cranks feature a 32T narrow wide chainring which acts as a built-in chain guide system. The front end is left to the hands of a RockShox Pike RCT3 fork with 150mm of travel. This arrangement of components work seamlessly together to transfer rider generated power directly to the Race Face Aeffect wheels which are wrapped in Schwalbe Hans Dampf front and rear tires. Race Face Atlas bar and stem along with a Race Face Turbine dropper seat-post dominate the cockpit making this custom build one of the most well equipped and capable trail machines on the market.

The Dragon is the mountain bike that built Jamis’ high-end reputation in their early years, and the legend is still going strong. If you’re committed to big-wheeled steel hardtails, the Jamis 27.5 is a prodigious option.

The Dragon 27.5 is beautifully crafted from Reynolds Reynolds 520 steel, which provides an incredibly resilient and sturdy ride. With the addition of oversized 44mm head tubes, the Dragon has adopted a tapered steerer fork to add more stiffness, reduce weight and improve tracking through bumpy terrain. Additionally, the bike now features a chainstay/seatstay disc brace that supports the thin-walled, non-driveside stays from the loads generated by the disc brakes. This brace is light, strong, and clean, and provides vibration-free braking.

For the Jamis drivetrain, the Dragon 650b employs a keen Shimano component arrangement including an SLX rear derailleur and a Deore front derailleur and shifter set, which clearly communicate with each other for smooth, snappy gear changes. The 2×10 gear set-up provides a plethora of options for tackling undulating terrain. The Shimano M396 hydraulic disc brakes are paired with large 180mm (f) and 160mm(r) rotors to bring you to a quick stop, once you’ve decided to pack it in for the day.

Handling the Jamis front end, a Rock Shox Recon Silver TK fork with 32mm stanchions and a tapered aluminum steerer tube keeps things plush and tracking smoothly when things get rowdy. The Banshee is equipped and ready for the party, so throw on your Prime clipless dancing shoes, throw a leg over, and get ready to rage. Founded on Banshee’s all-new KS Link suspension platform, the setup features an insanely supple design as it completely eliminates pivot resistance and nearly all DU bushing rotation. To achieve this, their KS Link provides the rider with better traction through its ability to react faster to sudden changes in the terrain, resulting in superior small bump compliance for an overall smoother ride. The short one-piece forged linkages boosts the Prime’s overall stiffness and responsiveness by lowering its center of gravity, while its fully sealed, oversized bearings and low pivot loads keep maintenance virtually non-existent.

Honing in on the small details, the Prime features Banshee’s new modular dropout system which uses a 3-position adjustable geometry and “flip-chips” to alter the head angle in half degree increments, and also change the BB height in quarter inch increments, transforming the bike into whatever you need it to be. A 44/56mm tapered headtube cleverly permits the use of a zero stack headset cup to reduce the stack height if needed. When it came time to create the lines for the tubing, Banshee didn’t just replicate shapes and weld together some aluminum pipes. Instead, they meticulously hydroformed 7005 AL aluminum tubing and internally ribbed the chain and seat stays are for a noticeable increase in strength and stiffness, and a decrease in weight.

The 29er Frame can be easily adjusted from neutral setting to be higher and steeper to feel more like a regular trail bike with good pedal clearance for tight technical terrain, or it can be dropped down to the slack and low setting to become the high speed fighter jet of a bike. This adjustability is important, as the low and slack geometry is not suited to every trail, as you may well know. Sometimes it is more important to have the pedal clearance that comes with a slightly higher BB height, and sometimes the more nimble feel of steeper geometry when riding slower and more technical trails.

Banshee made it easy to sum up this black stealth looking ride is not only hip looking, but with short travel the Phantom is built for lycra-wearing cross country speedsters. However, this wouldn’t be an accurate summary for what Banshee acomplished here. Stiff, strong, and aggressive enough to turn the heads of hard-nosed all-mountain and trail riders, the Phantom is so much more.

 

 

By combining a short 105mm travel platform with the stiff Frame and a low, slack geometry, you get a 29er that doesn’t believe in labels or assumptions. Most bikes within this travel range usually feature a steeper geometry and a flexier tube set that simply doesn’t inspire the confidence needed to fly down technical descents. This ride on the other hand sees things a little differently.

The Phantom specifically gets 105mm of travel to bring the Banshee bike alive and connect the rider directly with the trail, without being totally rigid. Bikes can often have too much suspension which can sort of cloud the ride experience and spoil us as riders. Less travel breaks down the safety net and forces us to get to know the trail on a personal level by testing our skills and grit. Additionally, shorter travel equates to a more responsive acceleration and a better climbing platform.

What do you get when you cross a Niner with a fat bike? The answer is the ROS 9 29+! By using the insanely popular ROS 9 long travel hardtail geometry to draft up the blueprint for the ROS 9, Niner has introduced the first trail-esque rigid 29+ shredding machine.

Many of the 29+ Bikes on the market are designed around a short-travel cross country geometry, whereas the ROS 9 takes it in a different direction. Niner slackened the headtube and shortens the chainstays to make this a true fun factory of a bike. The frame is built for 29 x 3.0″ tires which take traction and plushness to previously unknown levels. If you’ve never ridden 29+, you’re destined to have a big grin on your face the moment to unleash this beast on the trail.

The ROS 9 Plus is constructed from 4130 ChroMoly steel, a bombproof material that will absorb the abuse inflicted by the most unforgiving of trails, offering the resilience and ride quality you want for unruly riding. Its razor sharp handling is augmented with a custom forged 142×12 Maxle compatible dropouts in the rear, the frame is further equipped to resist twist under heavy pedal loads and when cornering and descending. Up front, the matching tapered chromoly steel fork features a unique 15mm thru-axle and a 470mm axle to crown length to keep the front low so that you can get the best climbing position. Additionally, the ROS frame also features clever details that are a little less noticeable, such as internal and external dropper routing, removable downtube cable guides, Biocentric II Bottom Bracket and custom forged seat and chainstay bridges. With the included BioCentric II eccentric bottom bracket, the frame is easy to run as a single-speed if you so wish. If you’re going to keep running this as a multi-speed, the BB height can be adjusted when using a BioCentric II bottom bracket to fit this bike to your specific needs.

Although the short chainstays and 3.0 Plus tires provide 1x only cranks, Niner has kept the removable High Direct Mount on the seat tube for use with chain guides available for this standard. Additionally, Niner worked with MRP, to design unique mounts for a custom XCG Bash Guard to protect the precious chainrings from rocks, logs and other trail impacts.

The ROS bike features a formidable blend of components that deliver a high level of functionality and eye for substance over style. You can think of the ROS as a bike whose only concern is going out and having fun and not thinking about anything else. For this reason, it’s paired with a Shimano SLX M7000 drivetrain which brings single ring living to this hyper bike, eliminating the front derailleur and a shifter to ensure the focus remains on having a blast. While the Shimano BR-M7000 brakes deliver the stopping power and superior modulation of hydraulic disc, while keeping the cost minimal.

 

The Stan’s No Tubes Hugo wheelset features a 52mm wide rim on the outside and 49.9mm wide on the inside, meaning tons of support for the giant 29 x 3.0″ tires. The wheelset is drilled for Schrader valves for ease of inflation. It features a double wall section in the middle and it has independent drop channels on each side for easy inflation and mounting. Niner didn’t skimp on the cockpit duties with a nice Niner carbon RDO Seatpost, alloy handlebars and stem.

The bottom line is, when a rowdy steel frame with a slackened headtube and chiseled chainstays meets the 29+ wheel, you get a bombproof bike that’s jonesin’ to be shown a good time.

Also the overall Jet 9 RDO dimensions lean toward longer reach on the frame so you can run a shorter stem that’s more responsive. Likewise, the chainstays have been slammed down to 434mm for fast acceleration and some playful pop. But to keep the overall feel of the Jet 9 bike well rounded and to ensure its equal efficiency for climbing and pedaling, the the seat tube angle is slightly steeper. This super fun 2017 GT bike simplifies what should already be a pretty simple concept but has become the victim of over-engineering, for going mountain biking on your local trail network. Bigger wheels, no suspension, and the lighter alloy frame are about as pure as mountain bikes get. Sure, the longer GT wheelbase, steep head tube, and big contact patch of bigger wheels can make it difficult to dice through techier terrain, but when you’re burning swathes across alpine mountain singletrack, the GT Karakoram’s aggressive speed more than makes up for the platform’s inherent lack of low-speed agility.

 

The Karakoram is built up with elite parts as straight-forward as the frame itself, with Shimano’s workhorse names scattered throughout the drivetrain and brakes, an All Terra crankset, and 29 x 2.1 MTB Tires. While the Karakoram kit’s not magazine-cover sexy, although you sure will be while blasting past all the 6in enduro sloggers out there. Yes that’s right this bike will pedal night and day faster than all your friends will believe, as the elite triple triangle frame is forgiving yet ample rigid exactly where the setup needs to be.
