Prologo updates road, mountain bike saddles w/ CPC Airing vibration damping

Prologo introduced CPC sections on their saddles a few years back, putting a grippy, vibration damping material shaped like tiny tentacles. It’s used in F1 to reduce fatigue, and they put it on their gloves’ palms, too. Last fall, they upgraded it to CPC Airing to improve its performance and enhance air flow to help control heat buildup while you’re riding. At that time, it was only available on their top level “Nack” models with carbon rails. Now, you can get CPC Airing on their Tirox alloy-railed saddles for road and mountain, too…

All of their road models are now available in both Nack and Tirox editions with CPC Airing. On the mountain side, look for it on the SCRATCH X8, NAGO X10 and the new XZERO, shown at the top. All of them are available in black or white.

New Ergowave comfort series…

The SQlab has quite the impressive company history, as it’s apparent they have always been about finding ergonomic solutions through science and experience. When it came time for the latest SQlab Ergowave creation, they teamed up with the University Hospital of Frankfurt and the Frankfort University of Applied Sciences – not your typical development program.

Together, the team ended up with the new Ergowave series. Between the 611 and the 612, the saddles dive deep into the SQlab bag of ergo tricks and promise comfort on both the road and mountain.

SQlab Ergowave 612 Saddle

One of the more apparent Ergowave features would have to be the raised tail section and dropped nose. The Lab claims this is to provide more rearward support and also is more energy efficient while the drop nose reduces pressure on the soft tissue region. Additional perineal relief comes in the form of a sizable dip in the center of the Ergowave.

ergowave 612

Like many of their models, the Ergowave series is sold in different widths which are matched to the size of your sit bones. An SQlab dealer would measure you on the device then sell you the appropriate model similar to what a number of other companies are doing, but with four sizes.

Bumper

The Ergowave series will also include models with their Active technology which builds in 7º of pelvic movement through the flex of the rails. This movement on the Ergowave can be either undamped, or you can add one of three adjustable bumpers available in soft, medium, or hard durometers to restrict the movement.

ergo models

Divided into the Ergowave 611 and 612, the 611 is meant more for more aggressive mountain biking and has a softer padding, wider nose, and kevlar reinforcement at the back. The Ergowave 612 is therefore more appropriate for road riding or XC racing but either could be used in either situation depending on the rider. SQlab Saddles will be offered with TiTube or Carbon rails with prices ranging from $139 to $229 in late July, early August.

Syncros RR 1.0 Carbon Saddle

Syncros RR 1.0 Carbon Saddle

Syncros RR

$159

Quick to notice that Syncros did everything possible on the RR 1.0 Carbon Saddle to make it as lightweight, but yet comfortable as possible. Aside from the svelte carbon fiber rails and injected shells, you see that the RR has a large cutout at the rear. As you may have guessed, this is indeed to rid the RR setup of unnecessary material in order to shave off valuable grams.

The Syncros flat and long shape employs a healthy layer of Light PU foam wrapped in a softhand Microfabric cover, providing just the right amount of padding to take the pressure off the contact points, but not so much to the point of bunching or restricted movement. Additionally, the slight channel down the center is strategically placed to keep pressure off the perineal region, ensuring proper blood flow down below, while the oversized RR 7x9mm rails and carbon-reinforced nylon shell offer a stiff, sturdy platform for power up steep hairpins and rocketing down mountainous roads. Whether you’re road racing or simply looking to drop a few grams, over the RR 1.5 saddle which is around 50 grams heavier than this 1.0 and put through its share of strides to come out a keen road throne.

Syncros XR 1.0 Carbon Saddle Review

Syncros XR1.0 Carbon Saddle

$140.00

Enjoy the Syncros XR  comfort…

Nothing kills a good race buzz like a sore butt, which is why Syncros came up with the XR 1.0 Carbon Saddle to make the sit bones happy, without compromising race-worthy performance. The XR get’s it done by swathing a healthy layer of Light PU foam in a softhand Microfabric cover, as it then provides you just the right amount of padding to take the pressure off the contact points, but not so much to the point of bunching or restricted movement.

Syncros didn’t stop there.. Additionally for the 1.0, a slight channel down the center is strategically placed on the XR to keep pressure off the perineal region, ensuring proper blood flow down below, while the carbon fiber saddle rails and injected shell offer a stiff, yet sturdy platform for power up climbs and rocketing down descents.

Whether you’re racing XC short course or off-road marathons, the XR saddle has been put through its share of strides and has come out a proven race throne. Also did we mention, the XR stealth black, is *Badass* looking!

Ergon SMA3 Comp Saddle

As the enduro wave continues to swell, Ergon’s experts have moved their focus to developing enduro-specific ergonomics. Designed alongside freeride legend and Ergon factory rider, Richie Schley, the SMA3 employs the same v-shaped design as the SME3, allowing the same full range of motion and adjustments in saddle height, while using extra padding to provide a more bum-friendly option. To meet the indecisive ways of enduro riding, the SMA3 features a flat profile with a slightly sloped rear, enabling fast switches from sitting to standing, to crushing a descent from behind the saddle. The thick orthopedic Comfort foam padding and flex optimized shell work together to bolster comfort for the more casual enduro rider. When it’s all said and done, the SMA3 is a sure step towards a happier butt.

Description

Thankfully, there are manufacturers out these days like these guys who have managed to construct saddles that focus on comfort without sacrificing a race-able weight by using effective materials and strategic shaping. As the SMC3 is a wonderful example of this method. It’s the top-end offering in their mountain-specific SMC3 line. This SMC3 is also the lightest as well, and designed to maintain comfort across a day exploring snaking singletrack or punching over rocky cruxes to maintain a gap.

They set the Pro model apart though, Ergon included a carbon composite shell atop its lightweight TiNox rail system. For construction, the TiNox is a key ingredient as a blend of stainless steel and titanium that’s produced in a single, Austrian factory. The blend is actually lighter than standard titanium, but it retains the strength of the wonder alloy, making it an even better choice for racing kit like the top-tier SMC3 model shown here.

With the saddle’s weight at a claimed 220g — 15g lighter than the SMC3 Comp — it’s carbon shell also absorbs more trail vibration. Unlike its siblings, this SMC3 model also boasts a silicone-treated nose for less friction on clothing, and it’s shaped to reduce chafing and guarantee ample leg clearance.

Like the other models, the Pro is finished with a pronounced pressure-relief channel down the center to achieve a balance of support and relief.

Design Specs:

  • Key Usage: Mountain biking.
  • Rails: TiNox, with graphic
  • Shell: carbon composite.
  • Cover Material: Microfiber Superlite, Alcantara
  • Warranty: 2 years

While it’s not the top-end offering in their mountain-specific SMC3 line. This SMC3 is not the lightest as well, but designed to maintain comfort across a day exploring snaking singletrack or punching over rocky cruxes to maintain a gap.

They set the model up though, with a fiberglass composite shell atop its sturdy CroMo rail system. For saddle construction, the CroMo is a key ingredient as a primary goal to keep you comfortable so you’re able to spin all day without suffering a significant weight gain or a budget-crushing price.

With the SMC3 saddle’s weight at a claimed 264g — 44g heavier than the SMC3 Pro — it’s fiberglass composite shell also absorbs more trail vibration. Description

They make the Ergon SRX3 model different from traditional saddle designs, by using a pronounced V-shape, allowing for road cyclists and cross racers more opportunity for shifting back and forth on the saddle as they utilize different posts while pedaling. Their SRX3 Saddle falls into the entry-level space in the lineup, by featuring a mix of more affordable materials. If you’re on the hunt for a different shape or are trying to outfit a ‘cross setup with a saddle designed to accommodate the variety of positions you’ll occupy throughout a race, the SRX3 is a practical investment.

They constructed the SRX3 with a blend of common materials that include CroMo steel rails and a fiberglass composite shell, but the AirCell padding atop this model is less common. Proprietary to them, AirCell features layers of tiny air pockets that absorb harsh road vibrations and provide support whether you’re mashing on grass or spinning along your favorite road loop.

Additional support comes in the form of the slight upturn at the rear of the SRX3, included to make it easier for riders to push back into the saddle and send an added burst of power to the pedals while climbing or grinding through a sandpit. The SRX cyclocross saddle anticipates quick dismounts at barriers and ahead of run-ups, and its overall flat topography was designed to make the process as smooth as possible.

  • Key Usage: Road biking Cyclocross.
  • Rails: CroMo, with graphic

As bikes get more and more travel-happy, components and accessories have to evolve to keep up. Saddles, though, are largely immune to changing bike design — a seat’s a seat, right? WTB’s not so sure, and so it designed the High Tail Carbon Saddle specifically to accommodate long-travel bikes that might otherwise buzz your saddle when the suspension is fully compressed.

By shortening the saddle to 255mm and including a rear cut-out, they made sure the WTB High Tail won’t get buzzed on bikes with compact rear frames, big wheels, and plush suspensions. This design also reduces the weight to a mere 159 grams with help from the inclusion of carbon-fiber rails and a featherweight carbon shell.

A shorter tail makes it easier to get your weight off the back when you’re descending, and WTB’s signature DNA padding provides personalized and unparalleled comfort. While the High Tail was made with DH and enduro riding in mind, it’s light and comfortable enough to work as a trail or road saddle, so don’t hesitate to throw it on your preferred ride.

Saddles have stayed for the most part immune to changing bike design — a saddle’s a saddle, right? WTB disagrees, and so it teamed up with Chris Cocalis, the founder of Pivot Cycles, and Dave Weagle, inventor and namesake of the DW-Link suspension, to designed the High Tail Team Saddle specifically to accommodate long-travel bikes that might otherwise buzz your saddle when the suspension is fully compressed.

Latest Fizik Cycling Products For Lifetime Fun!

The creatives made the Fizik Arione so you don’t have to break the bank. As this version of Arione Braided Carbon Saddle doesn’t get the full-carbon shell or chassis of the more expensive R1 or 00 Arione, but it still offers the same superb comfort that more flexible riders have come to expect from the Arione name. See more of what the R3 has to offer below.

If you’re one who’s limber and spend a lot of time down in the drops, the Arione is the way to go. Again, rather than the carbon-intensive shells of its more expensive siblings, the R3’s thermoplastic composite shell is reinforced with fiberglass in the rear portion where your sit bones reside. Making this Arione slightly heavier, but just as accommodating, with similar flex properties. Fizik Arione R3 Braided anthracite-black-redShown above this provides a solid platform where it’s necessary, and not where it isn’t. Surrounding, and in-between those pieces, is the highly flexible thermoplastic. This forms what Fizik calls Wing Flex. Wing Flex allows riders of varying pelvis and thigh shapes to find a comfortable position on the saddle for a nearly custom fit.

It also assures that pedaling is as nonrestrictive as possible. Finishing off the construction, the shell has been covered with a Microtex fabric that’s durable and easy to clean. While this R3 model employs their braided carbon rails that measure 7mm x 9mm, making them compatible with the vast majority of seatpost clamp interfaces.
