KTM Canic CXC 22 Disc Testing Review

KTM Canic CXC 22 Disc Testing Review matt_orangepetrolblueblack

Canic CXC 22 Carbon

The 2016 KTM is built to win, and been a producer of high-end cyclo-cross bikes since the 1970’s, while KTM has won several national titles. Now, you can experience the thrill of an exotic ride firsthand. The KTM Canic cyclocross bike and Canic CXA 20-S 105 alloy were designed for competition and equipped with all relevant technologies, such as internal cable routing, a SRAM’S Force 1x drivetrain and SRAM hydraulic disc brakes. Take back the glory years with a Canic now.

The Canic is at home in adverse weather conditions, but just as capable on local fire roads for some wide open, pedal-mashing good times. As the seatstays were manufactured in one long piece for best bump absorption. While the integrated Canic seat clamp enables a shorter seat tube length in combination with an effective longer seat post length. Which allows more of the bumps to absorbed efficiently, thus muscles fatigued less and a power surplus is achieved.

The CXC carbon frame and fork deliver stiffness under torque, increased agility, vibration dampening for comfort, and low weight for improved handling. The bigger dimensioned chainstay is better suited for high braking forces, at the same time the new shape significantly improves aerodynamics. In addition, Finally, SRAM hydraulic disc brakes offer great modulation and stopping power.

2015 KTM Scarp 29 Master Carbon FS

KTM Scarp 29 Master Carbon FS black_matt_orange

Scarp 29 Master

The Austrian company has recently emerged out of Europe, and with the 2015 KTM model line want to remind you why KTM continue to be the center of cycling. As they have brought key engineering prowess to bear on some of the most advanced KTM Scarp mountain and Revelator road bikes in the USA, and world as well.

The Scarp mountain bike is a carbon fiber, full suspension mountain bike that’s precision engineered to help you achieve your best on every single ride. Packed with technology, super lightweight, and designed for speed and durability, the Scarp lets you squeeze every last watt out of the frame, while giving you the confidence to tackle line you usually walk. The full suspension though, paired with the lighter carbon frameset will be a Master-level bike.

At the 29 heart is an M:5950 carbon fiber monocoque frame and rear triangle are lightweight and stiff enough for XC, yet tough enough for all-mountain riding. Frame Guard technology helps protect the most sensitive areas of the frame from damage by reinforcing key areas. A tapered steerer helps stiffen up the front end of the frame for racing, while Hollow Carbon 3D dropouts keep weight low. Internal cable routing for a clean profile, and to keep cables from snagging while you ride. A pressfit BB improves bottom bracket stiffness and makes servicing easier.

The Scarp suspension duties are handled by a Fox Float DPS Elite 100mm rear shock with remote, and a Fox 32 Float fork with 100mm of travel, CTD remote lockout, oversized steerer tube for increased stiffness, and 15mm thru axle. This gives you plenty of squish in both the front and rear when the trail gets gnarly, while the CTD remotes let you lock out the front, rear, or both to improve climbing efficiency or help you carry more speed when racing.

A full SRAM X1 drivetrain on the Scarp delivers some of the smoothest and most reliable shifting in the business. Although X1 is more than just a single chainring up front, it’s a system that’s perfectly tuned for precise shifting, and optimal chain tension even in harsh terrain. Deore XT M8000 hydraulic brakes provide the best stopping power you’ll find anywhere. Rounding out the build is set of Team tubeless ready rims, laced to Team TA hubs. A DT Swiss tubeless kit helps seal up the Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo 29 x 2.25″ tires. Topping the bike is a Fizi:k Tundra M5 manganese saddle, with a Scarp 30.9mm alloy seatpost.

2017 KTM Myroon 29 Sonic Edition

2017 KTM Myroon Sonic 29 Premium Edition Eagle XX1

Myroon Sonic 29

With a year of Olympic hopes, for 2017 KTM bikes decided to take their cross country racing capabilities up a notch to rework both their XC carbon hardtail and full suspension models to replace the KTM Prestige model line. See the fabulous KTM Myroon specs and more below…

2017 KTM Myroon Sonic 29 fork

The Myroon is a no-holds-barred race machine, with it’s frame employing their tried and true race geometry. Like the Scarp, it stays with the same Myroon mold, and does it all in new layup. Unlike the full suspension though, the lighter carbon hardtail will be exclusive to the Sonic-level bike.

The 29 frame uses a new performance UD carbon material and new layup that trims its weight down about 120g to just 1090g for it’s all carbon getup.

The model gets Boosted wheels, tapered fork, press fit bottom bracket and fully internal cable routing.

KTM Scarp Sonic Shimano-XTR-Eagle-XX1-mix

To get the Myroon bikes to race weight, specs include Fox’s newest Kashima-coated Factory suspension components that conveniently match up well with their orange livery. Up front that means the Boost-spacing 100mm travel Fox 32 step-cast fork, the Fox Float out back.

KTM Myroon Sonic toptube

Balancing savings on the scale and performance, the race bike employs a mix of component suppliers to get the best of both worlds. That provides both with SRAM’s new XX1 Eagle 12 speed drivetrain for the pinnacle in lightweight race power to the rear wheel.

2017 KTM Myroon 29 Sonic

But to stop everything they went with Shimano XTR braking with IceTech + Freeza rotors for the best braking performance available to the lightweight crowd.

In a first for the Austrian team, they partnered with DT Swiss to spec their first stock carbon fiber wheelset on a mountain bike. The DT XRC1200 wheels get a special color-matched finish and pair well to the Di-cut DT 240s hubs, and carry light Schwalbe Thunder Burt 29 tires.

■■ Create the masterful 2016 KTM frame, and then soak it with a dreamy list of components, like Shimano’s XTR 22s drive system, paired with DT Swiss wheels that employ a predictive steering hub for the Rockshox fork, Shimano’s XT M8000 disc brakes, and top the top tier KTM list off with a plush rear shock, and you then end up with a KTM Scarp mountain bike so advanced, the race course won’t know what hit it.

■■ This Scarp mtb ride will make for the pin ultimate ride in a multitude of ways, such as Marathon/Endurance and the screaming fast XC machine. This full suspension mountain bike, was designed with their Performance Straight-Line-Link giving it 90mm of rear cush, while the newest technology comes from R: Boost 148 thru-axle to make track straight as an arrow.

■■ Creative designers have developed the setup to not only reduce the weight numbers on the scale, but had several goals in mind, as stiffness is another highly important aspect. So they built the Scarp, by employing a new monocoque carbon. It’s derived from ultra high modulus, which is noticeably more compliant yet ample rigid exactly where the 29er needs to be.

■■ KTM uses their own internally optimized molding process that completely eliminates excess material, and therefore grams on the scale, inside the frame tubes and junctions. The other highlights also include the use of flow-through internal cable routing. Which not only reduces wind drag but will prevent any contaminants from entering and interfering with the function of the cables. To keep shifting crisper longer.

Description

The Myroon has most definitely proved what it’s pedigree is all about, by producing several wins last summer at the World level. So for this season, KTM designers decided to introduce several models of the Myroon to build on it’s success story. As always, there’s been tons of hard work in the KTM research department in collaboration with their team of racers and more. It’s a state of the art Elite racer, featuring 142 thru-axle technology, which provides an increase in the rear wheel stiffness department, along with shorter chainstays to increase stiffness in the rear as well, all to transfer your power. In addition to the rear, they stretched the cockpit slightly, to be lower and racier. KTM have also made the seat angle a bit steeper to put the rider even more centrally over the bb area. They incorporated the new frame features on the Myroon Prestige, Myroon Prime B and the Myroon Elite models.

The Myroon has most definitely proved what it’s pedigree is all about, by throwing down multiple XC podiums at the highest level. So for the upcoming season, KTM designers decided to introduce the Myroon Boost to build on it’s success story. As always, there’s been tons of hard work in the KTM R&D department in collaboration with their team of racers, to get it released to you and I. It’s a state of the art Prime racer, featuring Boost technology, which provides a 21% increase in the rear wheel stiffness department, along with shorter chainstays to increase stiffness in the rear as well, all to transfer your power. In addition to the rear, they stretched the cockpit slightly, to be lower and racier. KTM have also made the seat angle a bit steeper to put the rider even more centrally over the bb area. They incorporated the new Boost frame features on the Myroon Prestige B, Myroon Prime B and the Myroon Master B.

■■ Deck the KTM frame, in a worthy list of components for racing.

For this summer the KTM Myroon Prestige mountain bike is a full carbon hardtail bike that’s perfect for XC racing, AM riding, and letting the gnar out wherever the pavement ends. The 2015 bike is built around KTM’s M:5882 monocoque carbon fiber frame to make it stiff, lightweight, and high performing. The hardtail design improves pedaling efficiency and makes climbing easier and out-of-the-saddle efforts more effective, allowing for the Myroon to be excellent for fast, flowy trail sections and XC racing.

If your looking to Master your mountain biking skills, this ride might be the ticket to success. The designers employed a tapered headtube and pressfit bottom bracket both work to improve rigidity and performance. Suspension duties are handled by a Fox 32 Float 29 FIT O/C fork with 100mm of travel, CTD remote lockout and 15mm thru axle. This stiff, fast fork is renowned for its durability and performance. Even with just 100mm of travel, you can shred some gnarly terrain when you need to, then use the CTD remote to lock out the Myroon suspension when it’s time to climb those hills or when the trail gets smoother.

In the drivetrain department, the Myroon gets down the trail with a full Shimano Deore XT M780 getup to deliver some of the smoothest and most reliable shifting in the business. While Deore XT hydraulic brakes provide the best stopping power you’ll find anywhere. Rounding out the Myroon build is set of DT Swiss tubeless ready rims laced to DT Swiss hubs, all wrapped up in Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo 2.25″ tires. Topping the bike is Fizik Tundra M5 manganese saddle, with their own in-house Team 30.9mm alloy seatpost.

■■ Deck the Lycan 27.5 frame in a complete XX1 11-speed parts build.

The Lycan’s unique design is quite striking to say the least. The shape of KTM’s linkage plates and headtube let the slim aluminium frame appear rather futuristic. Yet, the Lycan is by no means lacking curves. In particular the brake mount is fabulous, as the integration forms well into the overall look of the 2015 Lycan model. Plenty of key details here that want to be challenged out on the Enduro circuit.

The Fox Lycan LT frame allows for 160mm spring travel in the front with adjustable 140mm-160mm in the back, whereas the high-end model fork features a kashima coating as well. Fox also supplies the rear shock with its very own Float CTD BV. The bike that can tackle just about any terrain you throw it at, and survive to tell the tale, while still letting you step above the pack when it’s time to pin a race number on.

To make it 271 worthy, the Kind Shock LEV-DX dropper seatpost ensures a perfect seating position and can be controlled using a remote lever attached to the handlebar. While the steering center features various Ritchey components from the high-quality WCS-series including a 740mm wide handlebar on a 90mm long stem. To effectively slow and stop the 13.8kg-bike and its rider, KTM chose to fit the classic Shimano XT-brake.

To finish it off, provisions for an effective drive are entrusted to a mix of SRAM’s XX1, whose 1×11 system offers plenty of choice so no uphill will be an obstacle.

Build Specs:

  • Frame: Full Mountain KTM 650b Aluminum Front and Rear 271 Triangle, Longtravel Suspension Tech, Internal Derailleur, Brake & Dropper Post Routing, 140-160 mm adjustable travel.

■■ Soak the 2015 Myroon frame, and then drape it with a dreamy list of components, like Shimano’s Di2 11 drive system, paired with DT Swiss 29″ wheels that employ a Predictive Steering hub for the RS1 fork, Shimano’s XTR M9000 disc brakes, and top the top tier KTM list off with RockShox’s RS1 fork, and you then end up with a KTM Myroon mountain bike so advanced, the race course won’t know what hit it.

■■ This KTM mtb ride will make for the pin ultimate ride in a multitude of ways, such as Marathon/Endurance and the screaming fast XC machine. This 100mm travel hardtail mountain bike, was designed with KTM’s Ultimate M:5882 monocoque carbon fiber with Modular Construction, and full carbon dropouts will deliver efficiency and reliability to inspire just about anyone on the planet.

■■ Creative designers have developed the Prestige setup to not only reduce the weight numbers on the scale, but had several goals in mind, as stiffness is another highly important aspect. So they built the Myroon, by employing a new monocoque carbon. It’s derived from ultra high modulus, which is a fiber that essentially has the strength of two layers of carbon fiber in the thickness of one layer. Almost all the Formula one builders utilize this technology. The Myroon racing development frame is noticeably more compliant yet ample rigid exactly where it needs to be.

■■ InsideOut is one of KTM’s own revolutionary internally optimized molding process that completely eliminates excess material, and therefore grams on the scale, inside the frame tubes and junctions. By placing polyurethane inserts inside the KTM frame during the molding process—especially at the bottom bracket and head tube area—and then applying a precise amount of pressure and heat results in perfectly formed tubes, both inside and out.

■■ The other highlights also include the use of flow-through internal cable routing. Which not only reduces wind drag but will prevent any contaminants from entering and interfering with the function of the cables. To keep shifting crisper longer.

■ Modular Monocoque Myroon Construction is an advanced carbon fiber manufacturing technique that allows them to mold individual sections of the frameset and then join them together. The main advantage allows each section to be optimized to meet the specific engineering demands of that particular section of the Myroon frame.
