The SIR 9 returns as an all trail dominator. Revised geometry turns the SIR 9 into a modern trail bike set to ride over or through anything that stands in the way. Ride it hard. Ride it fast. After all, it’s made from a truly time-tested material that’s been air hardened and heat treated. The efficient, yet compliant ride quality of the SIR 9 harkens back to a simpler time. A time without linkages and complicated shock settings. A time where all the energy you put into the pedals moves you forward.
..

The Classic Reynolds 853 provides a supple, comfortable ride that will carry you through long days in the saddle. Boost spacing adds improved ride characteristics as well as versatility allowing you to build up your SIR 9 with either 29” wheels for maximum roll over, or 27.5” Plus if ultimate traction and stability are your preference. Adding to the SIR 9’s versatility is the ability to run either geared or single speed with Niner’s eccentric BB. The redesigned bottom bracket and chainstay junction improve ride quality while allowing greater tire clearance. A hidden plate inside the chainstay yoke stiffens and strengthens to improve power transfer. Eighteen mounting points for racks, fenders, bento box, water etc. along with integrated bag mounts means this SIR 9 is ready for the long haul.

Niner pairs the SIR 9 with Shimano’s smooth and precise M8000 11-speed drivetrain that provides a huge gear range to let you tackle steep climbs and speed through the straights and downhills. Shimano M8000 XT brakes deliver predictable power to get you stopped on a dime in any condition. Stan’s NoTubes wheels wrapped in Maxxis Ardent tires roll fast and smooth with confidence inspiring grip that will have you railing corners like a pro. Handling the suspension duties, is the Rock Shox Reba RL fork with Boost spacing, 120mm of travel, and external rebound and compression adjustment. Topping off the SIR 9 is a cockpit by Race Face, and KS Lev dropper post with internal routing.

The new SIR 9 begs the rider to push their limits and to have fun doing it.

Need a true cyclocross weapon? Look no further than the BSB 9. The cyclocross designers have applied technology from their mountain bike racing line and shared it with the BSB 9 to create a lightweight carbon cyclocross frame that rewards the rider with incredible power transfer and stiffness as well as updated technology like flat mount disc brakes and Di2 routing. Responsive handling is achieved through a steep headtube angle as well as all around perfect race geometry. Thoughtful touches like built in flat areas on the inner triangle aid in off the bike shouldering efforts, and internal cable routing that doesn’t get in the way. The designers pair the cyclocross-specific BSB 9 with their award winning carbon cyclocross fork, which provides the off-road ride quality riders want as well as updated technology including flat mount disc brakes that make installation and adjustment a breeze.

The BSB 9 was developed to be literally punished. So, don’t worry, as it can not only withstand rigors of the trail, as well as the rigors of cross, and tested to ISO mountain bike standards. Niner backs this by offering the C5 five year warranty, it is their commitment to you.

Niner Ros 9 Plus 2 Star SLX Bike

What do you get when you cross a Niner with a fat bike? The answer is the ROS 9 29+! By using the insanely popular ROS 9 long travel hardtail geometry to draft up the blueprint for the ROS 9, Niner has introduced the first trail-esque rigid 29+ shredding machine.

Many of the 29+ Bikes on the market are designed around a short-travel cross country geometry, whereas the ROS 9 takes it in a different direction. Niner slackened the headtube and shortens the chainstays to make this a true fun factory of a bike. The frame is built for 29 x 3.0″ tires which take traction and plushness to previously unknown levels. If you’ve never ridden 29+, you’re destined to have a big grin on your face the moment to unleash this beast on the trail.

The ROS 9 Plus is constructed from 4130 ChroMoly steel, a bombproof material that will absorb the abuse inflicted by the most unforgiving of trails, offering the resilience and ride quality you want for unruly riding. Its razor sharp handling is augmented with a custom forged 142×12 Maxle compatible dropouts in the rear, the frame is further equipped to resist twist under heavy pedal loads and when cornering and descending. Up front, the matching tapered chromoly steel fork features a unique 15mm thru-axle and a 470mm axle to crown length to keep the front low so that you can get the best climbing position. Additionally, the ROS frame also features clever details that are a little less noticeable, such as internal and external dropper routing, removable downtube cable guides, Biocentric II Bottom Bracket and custom forged seat and chainstay bridges. With the included BioCentric II eccentric bottom bracket, the frame is easy to run as a single-speed if you so wish. If you’re going to keep running this as a multi-speed, the BB height can be adjusted when using a BioCentric II bottom bracket to fit this bike to your specific needs.

Although the short chainstays and 3.0 Plus tires provide 1x only cranks, Niner has kept the removable High Direct Mount on the seat tube for use with chain guides available for this standard. Additionally, Niner worked with MRP, to design unique mounts for a custom XCG Bash Guard to protect the precious chainrings from rocks, logs and other trail impacts.

niner ros plus 2 star

The ROS bike features a formidable blend of components that deliver a high level of functionality and eye for substance over style. You can think of the ROS as a bike whose only concern is going out and having fun and not thinking about anything else. For this reason, it’s paired with a Shimano SLX M7000 drivetrain which brings single ring living to this hyper bike, eliminating the front derailleur and a shifter to ensure the focus remains on having a blast. While the Shimano BR-M7000 brakes deliver the stopping power and superior modulation of hydraulic disc, while keeping the cost minimal.

The Stan’s No Tubes Hugo wheelset features a 52mm wide rim on the outside and 49.9mm wide on the inside, meaning tons of support for the giant 29 x 3.0″ tires. The wheelset is drilled for Schrader valves for ease of inflation. It features a double wall section in the middle and it has independent drop channels on each side for easy inflation and mounting. Niner didn’t skimp on the cockpit duties with a nice Niner carbon RDO Seatpost, alloy handlebars and stem.

The bottom line is, when a rowdy steel frame with a slackened headtube and chiseled chainstays meets the 29+ wheel, you get a bombproof bike that’s jonesin’ to be shown a good time.

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ 3-Star XT Review

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ 3-star XT Review

2017 Niner Trail Induced…

This time Niner’s Jet 9 27.5+ comes highly modified.. yes extremely modified might describe it better.  They went all out to launch two completely new bikes. If you’ve been paying attention to current MTB trends, you probably know how this is going to go. Yes, the brand exclusive to 29ers have two bikes capable of running wheels that are not 29″.

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ Eagle XX1 Enve

The new RIP and JET 9 are the continuation of their “Big (R)evolution.” That encompasses both the evolution of their bikes and of the brand itself. This change started out with the new RKT nine and continued with the AIR nine as both bikes received new tech and modern geometry updates with shorter chainstays, longer reach, and a better ride overall. When it came time to redesign the bread and butter for their trail category, they wanted to offer consumers the best bike possible. So the company has expanded into gravel and cross with 700c wheels, Plus on the 29+ side, and now… 27.5+.

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+

Using all of the engineering and development knowledge gained over the years building bikes around the big wheels, Niner is diving head long into the 27.5+ category with a mid-travel JET 9 and long-travel RIP. The results are still classic, but offer a completely new way for the same brand to attack the trail.

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 120mm travel frame

The Jet 9 fits as most manufacturers seem to agree that Plus bikes have a place,  but haven’t agreed on how to go about building them. Initially, it seemed that the bikes were built with enough clearance to run the bigger tires but without much thought towards geometry. Then tire sizes seemed to stabilize around 27.5 x 2.8″ tires on 40mm rims. The Jet 9 accomplishes the variation with slightly longer travel.

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ grey frame

So not only the new JET 9 but the  Rip will also be sold in stock form with both options of 29″ and 27.5+ versions – one of each for every build level, from GX1, SLX, XT, X01 Eagle, and XX1 Eagle for the top level. Depending on the rider and their needs for a Jet 9 style trail bike, they feel that this ability to change wheel size is a feature customers are looking for as they search for every advantage they can get for their ride.

New suspension travel numbers are 120mm for the rear, and 130mm for the front via Fox’s 34 Float Factory FIT4 Kashima fork. Other details for 3-star XT complete bike here

2017 Niner Rip 9 RDO 2-Star SLX Bike

2017 Niner Rip 9 RDO 2-star SLX Bike

Niner Rip 9 RDO 2 Star SLX 2017 Bike Review

Price: $4700

The newest model resembles the previous iteration in name only, in fact it almost resembles last years WFO 9 more than the bike it’s at least nominally replacing. The Rip 9 suspension is deeper, the head tube is relaxed, the seat tube steeper, and chainstays stubbier, and the toptube is longer SL, all of which puts Niner in a class capable of moving freely between trail and enduro.

Whatever it be, the new RIP 9 RDO owes much of its come-all-ye capabilities to the introduction of Boost axle spacing. By bumping the rear axle out to 148mm, they were able to buy enough clearance at the bottom bracket to shorten the chainstays and sharpen the seat tube angle by 11mm and two degrees, respectively. These subtle changes make the rear triangle that much more responsive to input while also pushing the rider’s engine up over the pedals.

The stubby stays also keep the Rip 9 agile, but with a 67-degree head tube and 160mm of Lyrik forgiveness up front, it’s just as happy to try flattening everything in its path—or at least bailing you out when your lines start to get a bit too ambitious. In the event that discretion wins the day, the longer top tube and short stem keep handling on-point, despite that low head tube angle, so you can always fall back on those dicey stays to navigate stretches of especially techy terrain. Either way, take solace in knowing that most of the bike’s angles are similar to the WFO even though it maintains the precise handling of its predecessor. Given that mixed pedigree, the new Rip 9 RDO enjoys playing in rock gardens as much as barreling over horst and graben rootscapes.

So there’s obviously a lot of new radness with the Niner, but two things remain felicitously unchanged for the Rip 9, the Niner Race Day Optimized construction method and the Constantly Varying Arc (CVA) suspension design. They use a dual-compression process that eliminates resin pooling and allows precise control over wall-thickness. Reducing imperfections makes for a more structurally sound frame, and the targeted control over lay-up and wall thickness lets Niner buttress that structure where appropriate and reduce material where it’ll save weight without sacrificing stiffness. The result marks the nexus of low weight and efficient durability: a frame that’s equal to the abuse of the trail and the pedals.

The new CVA suspension design is also unchanged, but it allows that design to play with 25mm more travel. This brings it up to 150mm—another parallel to the WFO—and optimizes it for descending fast in hairy terrain while keeping it surprisingly responsive when you get on the gas. Unlike other designs, CVA is optimized for the increased bottom bracket drop inherent in 29ers. It tends to ride high in the travel with a controlled mid-stroke that balances pedal input and suspension travel, keeping it stable through rock gardens and snappy when you get on the pedals. It also jumps incredibly well; this is one wagon wheeler that’s very happy when it’s airborne.

The frame finishing details are everything you’d expect from the obsessive developers at Niner, and our favorite new addition is—far and away—the inclusion of a BSA threaded bottom bracket. PressFit shells may be lighter and more convenient, but the exact tolerances of a CNC-machined thread are unmatchable by today’s composite technology. The threading means bearing cups install perfectly, reducing wear over time and eliminating the creaks and groans that so often accompany PressFit models. Vulnerable frame bits are girded with titanium protection plates, and the frame also includes integrated battery storage in case you get the urge for electro shifting. This model is built with revised axle spacing and geometry dimensions accommodate 29er tires up to 2.5in and, if you throw on some 27.5 rims, it’ll max-out at 3in tires.

  • The latest 29er pushes firmly into all-mountain territory
  • Six glorious inches of responsive, 29er-specific CVA travel
  • Updated geometry climbs faster and drops-in with enduro style
  • Carbon construction drops grams to gain speed
  • Compatible with electronic drivetrain routing and battery storage
  • Shimano’s no-nonsense drivetrain devours trail abuse

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO 2-star GX1 Bike Review

Niner Air 9 RDO 2-Star GX1 2017 Bike Review

Price $3500

In a world of big travel, full squish whips that draw comparison to terrain-conquering tanks, it’s sometimes refreshing to hop aboard a nimble hardtail and revel in the challenge of deftly picking lines through rugged, rocky terrain and ramping up to full flight when things get buttery smooth. Get light and technical on the Air 9 Complete Mountain Bike, featuring 120mm of plush Rockshox front travel, SRAM’s GX drivetrain, and fast-rolling Niner wheels.

Giving the Air 9 RDO a nudge towards the venerable RKT 9’s aggressive positioning, the most notable changes to the frame include a lower handlebar height. While paired with a longer cockpit and slacker headtube makes for a frame that will handle deftly on knife-edge lines and jump the second you need it to. The chainstays scrunched in by 4mm to 435mm compared to the previous Air 9 for lightning fast acceleration and nimble handing without crossing over into jumpy, squirrely territory. The new Air 9 RDO also sizes down its seatpost diameter to 27.2mm to take advantage of that little bit of extra flex and resulting comfort found in a narrower post.

2017-niner-air-9-rdo-2-star-gx1-green-blue

Out back, this year’s Niner model now boasts a 12 x 148mm Boost axle width, keeping in line with current trends for wider, stiffer wheelsets. Niner also tucks the brake caliper mounts on the chainstay, neatly within the rear triangle. This makes sense from a frame building standpoint, as the seatstay is generally the burlier of the two rear stays and the placement protects the caliper somewhat in the event of a crash. We also think that particular placement just looks better than an ungainly bump hovering above a seatstay.

As with Niner’s other Race Day Optimized offerings, the Air 9 is constructed using Niner’s Carbon Compaction System (CCS), which gives Niner complete control over tube wall thickness across the frame. This makes for tube walls that are virtually perfect, reduces the amount of materials required, and eliminates excess resin build up. The result is a claimed 10% weight reduction, which is a nearly unheard of leap between model years.

  • Lightweight hardtail for fast fun on the trails
  • Updated positioning improves handling
  • Short chainstays provide quick acceleration
  • Front travel softens the ride

2017 Niner RIP 9 Aluminum 2 Star SLX w/ 27.5+ options

2017 Niner RIP 9 Aluminum 2 Star SLX

Niner Rip 9 Aluminum 2 Star SLX 27.5+ Bike – 2017

Eyeing the new RIP 9 RDO but having trouble stomaching the price? Not to worry, Niner has you covered. Like most brands, their top of the line bikes are created from the wonderful material known as carbon fiber. Carbon has the potential to make really light and strong frames, but it also has a tendency to increase the price.

Now the newest Niner gets a lower priced makeover in the form of we-made-the-same-thing-in-aluminum. That means you get most of the Niner RDO performance including the dual wheel size capability, without the price…

RIP 9 linkage

The RIP 9 aluminum employs their CVA suspension system to pack in 150mm of rear travel, similar to the carbon version. To keep the aluminum frame simple as well as durable, you’ll find a threaded bottom bracket, external cable routing, ISCG 05 tabs, and a Zerostack tapered headtube.

Niner RIP 9 Alloy

Some of the biggest news is the addition of + wheel compatibility thanks to Boost rear spacing and bigger tire clearance, and that continues here as well.

To make up for the difference in tire size, the twentynine bikes come with a 160mm travel suspension fork while the + models bump up to 170mm. That keeps the numbers dialed into their [R]evolution geometry which stretches out the cockpit and allows the use of shorter stems and wider bars.

RIP 9 TECH SPECS

  • Niner’s patented CVA suspension design delivers 150mm of plush, efficient rear travel
  • Niner revised geometry is optimized for modern trail riding, providing confident descending, efficient climbing and a bike that is just all around fun
  • 73mm BSA threaded bb with ISCG 05 tabs
  • 30.9 seat post, 400mm recommended
  • Internal and external dropper post compatible
  • 34.9 Seat collar
  • 1.125” X 1.5” tapered zero stack headset included, 44mm upper, 56mm lower, Cane Creek
  • Niner Boost 148 x 12mm rear spacing
  • All Niner sizes have 1 bottle mount inside front triangle
  • SRAM/Shimano 1x Boost max chain ring clearance: 36t, 168mm Q factor

2017 Niner RIP 9 SLX

The SLX aluminum models will be offered in different builds – one with 29″ wheels for $3,500, and one with Rip 9 27.5+ wheels and tires for $3,80o. Both bikes include a 1×11 SLX drivetrain with a RaceFace Aeffect parts kit and a KS Dropzone dropper, while the price difference comes from the wheels with the plus version getting an upgraded Stan’s Neo/Baron wheelset. Both Niner models start shipping to dealers here.

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO Carbon Frameset Review

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO Frame Review

Niner Air 9 RDO Frame gets Trail Induced Geometry …2017

The stunning Niner, now caters to not only those who want to be first on the racer podium, but now with a slack geometry those who like to go really fast… on a hardtail! There’s no question they have mastered the art of the Air 9 29er hardtail, yet they continue to evolve and refine their craft. It features fully-housed internal cable routing, new carbon layup, smaller junctions, tapered headtube, a PF30 carbon bottom bracket shell and 12x148mm rear spacing. And Niner opted for a boost rear end because it reduces any twisting motion and allows for the use of wider/stronger built wheels.

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO Carbon Frameset CMYK color

The Air 9 RDO  features their (Race Day Optimized carbon fiber) production process known as Niner Carbon Compaction System. Niner’s Carbon Compaction System uses a pre-shaped Styrofoam mold encased by a bladder that the carbon is then laid around. The firm Styrofoam core provides the desired Air 9 RDO shape of the setup and a solid platform for the carbon layup. The bladder is then inflated to fully compress the carbon against the outer metal mold for accurate compaction and a smooth inside wall, producing a fruitful list of benefits.

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO Carbon Frame black-red color

First, the Air 9 gets the carbon in the exact position it should be in without any shifting from a bladder inflating after layup. Secondly, it reduces the amount of excess resin to pool inside the frame, meaning lighter weight and less wasting. Lastly, it enables the inside frame wall to be free of wrinkles and loose fibers, resulting in fewer potential weak spots.

Bigger is still better. Niner wants you to keep pedaling damn it!

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ Eagle X01 Enve

2017 Niner Jet 9 RDO 27.5+ Eagle X01

2017 Niner Trail Induced…

This time Niner’s Jet 9 27.5+ Eagle XX1 comes highly modified.. yes extremely modified might describe it better.

So not only the new JET 9 but the  Rip will also be sold in stock form with both options of 29″ and 27.5+ versions – one of each for every build level.

Other details for the Jet 9 5-star Eagle X01 Enve complete bike here

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO 5-Star XTR Di2 Review

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO 5-Star XTR Di2 review

Niner Air 9 RDO 5-Star XTR Di2 2017

The original Race-day-optimized AIR 9, which was known for its spine rattling stiffness. So for it’s 2nd generation, the Air 9 was made not just lighter, but also more compliant with the goal of making it more comfortable than the original.

But, Niner claimed that reworking of the layup also resulted in less lateral stiffness than a top-level race hardtail should have. While it was no slouch, the chance to rework it also opened up opportunities to make it lighter and modernize the geometry. Borrowing the long, slack “XC” geo from the recently introduced RKT9, the all-new Niner hardtail gets some big changes and an impressive 10% weight reduction.

2017 Niner Air 9 RDO carbon race bike

To retain the Air 9 RDO improved comfort of the first Race Day ride and improve performance, Niner essentially split the frame into top and bottom halves. The top adds compliance with thinner top tube and seatstays, and the seatpost drops down to a 27.2 diameter.

Niner slackened the headtube a full degree to 70° with a 100mm fork and stretched the front center slightly. The revised geometry also allowed for improved fit by making the headtube up to 20mm shorter on smaller sizes. That means Niner racers no longer need to slam the stem or remove dust caps to get low enough, and all sizes put the rider in a more aggressive position.

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO frame

Down low, the frame is optimized for stiffness and snappy acceleration by way of an broad downtube and full width bottom bracket shell.

2017 Niner Air9 hardtail-carbon race mtb

While Boost 148 rear axle spacing, allowed for them to chop 4mm off the chainstay and bring them down to 435mm while also bumping chainring capacity up to a huge 38t on a 1x setup (up from 32t). It also made room for a healthy 2.4″ of rubber with space to spare. They could have made the chainstays shorter but said 435mm was the right length for stable handling and proper rider weighting while climbing.

Frame weight came down a whopping 10% on average. Old Niner frames averaged about 1,180g, these are hitting about 1,050g with hardware, seat collar and derailleur hanger, plus paint and protective tape. The only thing that weight doesn’t include is the rear Maxle. Titanium frame guards and rubberized chainstay protector come standard.

They say much of the weight savings comes from the refined top section and by going to a larger box section BB, which allowed thinner walls. But, inside is a continuous carbon tube through the BB shell, which means compatibility with their Biocentric 30 EBB. As such, this bike replaces both the AIR 9 RDO and the One9 Race day models and now works with all modern drivetrains. You could even throw a triple on there if you want.

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO internal cable port

Other than water bottle bosses, the only metal on the frame is found in the brake mounts. All Niner frame sizes fit two water bottles. Shown above, there’s a new cable/hose routing port under the BB that eases installation, which was necessary because of the new solid BB tube. While 27.2 dropper posts are rare, the Niner frame is stealth dropper compatible, 5-Star XTR Di2 and Sideswing compatible, as well.

2017 Niner Air9 RDO mtb-geometry

Niner Geometry numbers are based on a 100mm suspension fork (click to enlarge), but Niner say it’s fine with a 120mm fork, too.

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO X01

They will be offered in CMYK and black/red color schemes. Beside the XTR build featured here, they have six complete bike builds will be offered: XT, GX1, X01, and X01 RS1.

BLOOD, SWEAT, & BEERS! BSB 9 THE EMBODIMENT OF CYCLOCROSS

Like a dream come true, comes the 2016 Niner BSB 9 RDO 2-star 105. Amongst the pandemonium of cyclocross racing and Niner, blood, sweat, and beer is often sacrificed as a means of triumphing the top step of the podium. No double takes needed to see that the BSB 9 is a born and bred cyclocross racing machine that is willing and able to deliver you there.

As the BSB 9 graces the cross scene with their beloved mountain bike heritage, it also introduces a cutting edge carbon fiber frame production process known as Carbon Compaction System. The overall shape of the BSB 9 tubing is intensively designed to meet the demands of cyclocross racing, including the iconic art of shouldering the bike. Cross junkies will find friendly flats, comfortable shoulder positioning and attentive placement of cables to aid in the best cyclocross technique. There are zero guides inside the front triangle, while external rear brake routing on the side of the downtube keeps everything out of the way when shouldering. Full length housing is employed on the front and rear for clean crisp shifting in the most unforgiving Winter conditions. Internal routing with a large access windows makes upkeep easy, and allows simple Di2 routing for riders with electronic shifting.

Niner BSB 9 RDO 2-Star 105 green

The sub 1000 gram BSB 9 RDO carbon layup race frame offers unfathomable amounts of stiffness for slodging through mud and kicking up fly overs. Featuring a cross specific geometry, including a steep head angle, the BSB 9 will see you through tight corners and sprint finishes, while the bottom bracket height is specific to crank length for better clearance on off camber course features. Niner applies their rigid carbon fork expertise into the front end to offer the off road ride quality that dedicated cross racers need to thrive. The RDO fork combines the tapered head tube with the 15mm front axle for unmatched front end stiffness and maneuverability. The flatter edges on the fork enhance lateral stiffness and prevent race killing brake rub.

Niner BSB 9 RDO 2-Star 105 build 2016

From its weight saving Carbon Compaction System frame production process, to it shouldering friendly geometry, the bike is fine tuned in every way for life between the tape, under the beer showers, and atop the podium.

2015 Niner BSB 9 RDO Frame Review

Niner BSB 9 RDO frame 2015

Huge Sale: MSRP $2299, 52% $1049.00

BSB 9 is a worthy contender

Looking for a cyclocross setup that’s out of the ordinary, meet the carbon fiber 2015 Niner BSB 9, that’s quite impressive.

The BSB 9 initialism speaks directly to the frame’s intended audience: Blood, Sweat, and Beers — a practical mantra of ‘crossers around the world. That non-too-serious BSB 9 moniker doesn’t translate to a less-than-serious design and engineering process, though. Niner spent many hours doing computer analysis, lab testing, and beating the crud out of its prototypes until it arrived at this disc-brake-only product, complete with aggressive geometry (steep head tube and seat tube angles, short seatstays, and high bottom brackets to avoid pedal impacts) and a thru-axle-equipped fork modeled after its award-winning rigid carbon mountain forks.

For the BSB 9’s main section, engineers even further refined their Carbon Compaction System molding process — employed on all of their RDO models — to extract the absolute most strength from every carbon fiber while eliminating those that weren’t contributing to it’s sharp handling or lateral stiffness. The process uses rigid internal molds for a more consistent and compact internal tube layering than the usual bladder molds, not only saving BSB 9 weight and boosting strength but ensuring that the interior of the is as beautifully seamless as the outside. The generously sized BSB 9 down tube, head tube design, and chainstay and seatstay shaping were all influenced by their supreme mountain hardtail, to bestow the BSB 9 not only with race-worthy stiffness but also a relatively smooth ride.

TECH SPEC

Though its primary identity is a singlespeed suffering machine, the CYA bottom bracket in Niner’s flagship singlespeed frame can also accommodate SRAM’s latest and greatest 1x drivetrains — a combination they couldn’t resist. The CC crew spec’d the One 9 Complete Mountain Bike with their own curated blend of gear. There’s the XO1 workhorse shifting, of course, but we also threw in SRAM’s new Guide RS brakes and a set of Mavic wheels for a build that’s solid enough for daily abuse but spirited enough to pin a number on come the weekend.

The bike’s One 9 drivetrain is a simplified version of the usual double and triple setups, but the frame goes in the opposite direction. Far from simple, the bike is a product of extensive computer-based finite element analysis that fed into the development of a high-modulus carbon fiber structure with optimized weaves, layups, and tube shapes. We admit that this computer stuff isn’t terribly sexy, but the results are undeniably attractive as the process ultimately produced the lightest One 9 to date.

Niner One 9 RDO 2015 blaze yellow

The One 9 frame’s flowing, graceful tube shapes are definitely sexy, though, and they put the  in the running for prettiest Niner to date, too — but they aren’t just for looks. Instead, the tubes are designed to minimize chatter and guide impact forces to the strongest parts of the frame. Chain torque goes directly to the rear wheel via the oversized CYA bottom bracket shell and shapely chainstays, yet trail vibrations are quelled by the swooping seatstays. They tie the One 9 bottom bracket to the precision-enhancing tapered head tube via a large down tube to ensure the frame tracks true and responds to every input, regardless of whether or not those inputs come in the middle of a race or a casual bikepacking trip.

Mixing the aluminum rear triangle and 12x142mm thru axle with a puts the race-proven geometry of the Jet 9 in a more affordable price range while keeping the focus on stiffness.

The Competitivecyclist crew took the liberty of kitting this frame out with 120mm of plush RockShox front travel, SRAM’s GX 1-by drivetrain and Guide RS hydraulic brakes, and a smooth-spinning set of Mavic Crossroc hoops.

Much of the Jet 9 resembles the previous model, as it shares a monocoque main triangle and many of the RDO’s features, including a PressFit 30 bottom bracket, cleanly routed internal cables, and relatively stubby chainstays. Most importantly though, they share the same eager 29er geometry.

Niner has found the sweet spot here with its 100mm of CVA travel for some time now. The CVA suspension’s lower link sits below the bottom bracket, which puts bike’s virtual instant center ahead of the drivetrain and effectively isolates the drivetrain from the rear triangle. When you press on the pedals, nothing’s lost to compressing the suspension, and you won’t suffer kickback from chainstay growth when taking advantage of the 29er’s ability to push on through rock gardens.

A low ratio of shock stroke to suspension movement further adds to CVA’s trail appeal. This decreases the amount of preload needed on the Jet 9 platform, which translates to smooth, effective damping and less drag on the shock seals. The Jet 9 also trusts its CVA design to RockShox with the Monarch RT3 rear shock, whose three distinct damping settings (open, pedal, and lock) let you adjust the bike’s platform as required by trail conditions.

2017 Niner AIR 9 RDO hardtail gets lighter, stiffer and more aggressive

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO XTR 1x

The original Niner AIR 9 RDO was the second generation of their carbon hardtail AIR 9, which was known for its spine rattling stiffness. That “Race Day Optimized”, then, was made not just lighter, but also more compliant with the goal of making it more comfortable than the original.

But, Niner claimed that reworking of the layup also resulted in less lateral stiffness than a top-level race hardtail should have. While it was no slouch, the chance to rework it also opened up opportunities to make it lighter and modernize the geometry. Borrowing the long, slack “XC” geo from the recently introduced RKT9, the all-new 2017 Niner AIR 9 RDO gets some big changes and an impressive 10% weight reduction.

2017 Niner Air9 RDO carbon race bike

To retain the improved comfort of the first Race Day ride and improve performance, they essentially split the frame into top and bottom halves. The top adds compliance with thinner top tube and seatstays, and the seatpost drops down to a 27.2 diameter.

They slackened the headtube a full degree to 70° with a 100mm fork and stretched the front center slightly. The revised geometry also allowed for improved fit by making the headtube up to 20mm shorter on smaller sizes. That means their racers no longer need to slam the stem or remove dust caps to get low enough, and all sizes put the rider in a more aggressive position.

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO frame

Down low, the Air 9 frame is optimized for stiffness and snappy acceleration by way of an broad downtube and full width bottom bracket shell.

Old frames averaged about 1,180g, these are hitting about 1,050g with hardware, seat collar and derailleur hanger, plus paint and protective tape.

As such, this bike replaces both the AIR 9 and the One9 Race day models and now works with all modern drivetrains. You could even throw a triple on there if you want.

2017 Niner AIR9 RDO internal cable port

Other than water bottle bosses, the only metal on the frame is found in the brake mounts. All frame sizes fit two water bottles. Shown above, there’s a new cable/hose routing port under the BB that eases installation, which was necessary because of the new solid BB tube. While 27.2 dropper posts are rare, the frame is stealth dropper compatible, Di2 and Sideswing compatible, as well.

Geometry numbers are based on a 100mm suspension fork (click to enlarge), but they say it’s fine with a 120mm fork, too.

Price $2800, sale discount 6% $2550

The stunning Niner Rip 9 GX1, caters to those scratching their 1x drivetrain itch for a pinch, the 2 Star build employs SRAM’Ss GX 11-speed drivetrain to bring high performance at a wallet friendly price. For the shifting work load, Sram’s rear derailleur provides crisp, accurate shifting under demanding conditions, while the trigger shifter lets you play with the Sram’s 11-speed cassette. The SRAM S1000 crankset rids a second chainring to combine its sole 32T ring with the large 11-42T cassette to provide an efficient range of gears that can get you up steep grades and then see you back down, while eliminating the need for a front derailleur and front shifter.

When things on the Rip 9 get a little too rowdy, the Sram DB5 hydraulic disc brake system is there to hold your hand. The front end suspension is put in the hands of a Fox 34 FLOAT Performance FIT4, 3 Position, 140mm fork with a Boost axle.

Niner Rip 9 Alloy GX1 complete bike

THE DESIGN

The RIP 9 personifies their rare dedication to delivering its renowned quality and detailing to all levels of mountain bikers. It starts with Air Formed aluminum tubing which increases the strength and rigidity of the bike. By shaping the frame tubes with compressed air in a heated mold, they were able to give the RIP 9 greater control over the wall thickness and material uniformity, allowing less metal to be used. It’s not merely a bike frame, but a sculpted work of art.

Featuring patented CVA suspension, the bike is the only 29er specific fully-suspended design, taking advantage of the increased bottom bracket drop of 29ers. It is not only efficient when pedaling skyward, but also handles even the most unforgiving descents with beauty and panache. Combine this with the 142x12mm rear hub spacing, and the power transfer becomes so reactive you’ll forget you’re riding a mid-travel, full suspension bike.

Niner Carbon Air9 Jenson XX1 Custom Bike

Niner Carbon Air9 Jenson XX1

Niner Carbon Air 9 Jenson XX1

price $3288 save 28% off – weight 23 lbs

During the week you train relentlessly on desolate service roads, and on the weekend it’s all business at the local XC series or overnighter 12 hour battle. Maybe racing hasn’t quite paid the bills yet, but that doesn’t mean you’re any less dedicated or talented, which is why you deserve a proven rig from a proven name to be there for you along the way. Enter the Niner Air 9 Carbon. Niner has proven year after year that they’ve got the 29er hardtail geometry down to a science, which they’ve demonstrated yet again with the new Air9 Carbon. Though it may not use Niner’s elite RDO (race day optimized) carbon, it borrows the mold and several other features previously only seen on the Air 9 RDO frame.

The Air 9 Carbon sees no shortage of highly detailed features including thinner tube profiles, smaller junctions, carbon molded headset races, a low profile disc brake mount, and a PF30 carbon bottom bracket shell. Niner continues to use tapered headtubes on all their new frames in order to maintain a stiffer front end which drastically improves the handling and control. This model also continues to use a 12 x 142 rear hub spacing, allowing a thru axle to be used as an added measure of increasing the overall stiffness of the ride while shedding roughly 50 grams. Additionally, it awesomely features 2.4” tire clearance versus its previous 2.35” clearance, as well as a lighter head badge that sheds valuable grams without expensing the Niner charm (don’t be ashamed of being a weight weenie).

Outfitting the Niner AIR 9 Jenson 1×11-speed bike is a hand-picked set of SRAM, Shimano and Niner components. The SRAM XX1 line dominates the drivetrain and handles the shifting segment, while the highly rated and recommended Shimano XT M8000 disc brakes handle the slowing and control portion. Suspension is taken care of with a 140mm travel Rockshox Revelation RL fork up front. Other highlights of this build is the Niner alloy cockpit, Race Face Turbine Tubeless compatible wheels, and Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires.

The Air9 Carbon Jenson bike is a clever build that really, anyone can enjoy. Although it’s technically not ‘Race Day Optimized’, this bike is as much at home on an XC race course as it is enjoying the scenery on your weekend route. Providing their proven hardtail geometry on a lightweight carbon frame Niner definitely knew what they were doing when they designed the Air9 Carbon.

■■ Full Suspension MTB Digs..

Latest Concept

Description

The 2016 Carbon 3-Star XT 1×11 Complete Mountain Bike returns relatively unchanged, featuring Niner’s signature blend of a carbon fiber front triangle and alloy out back for a ride that’s fast, responsive, and much more affordable than an all-carbon model. This mixed-media design balances making the race-proven geometry of the Jet 9 accessible to more cyclists while keeping the focus on stiffness, an attribute further boosted by a 12 x 142mm rear thru axle. The cumulatively stiffer ride maintains carbon’s efficiency, tracks more precisely over terrain, and protects the oversized cartridge bearings of the suspension from damaging torsional and lateral flex.

The Jet 9 Carbon shares many features with Niner’s full-carbon RDO models, including a carbon monocoque main triangle, a PF30 PressFit bottom bracket, cleanly routed internal cables, and relatively stubby chainstays. Most importantly though, they share the same eager 29er geometry.

While the industry-wide love of 29ers has sent some manufacturers into R&D purgatory in order to find a solution to full suspension/29er compatibility issues, Niner has been sitting pretty for some time with its 100 millimeters of CVA travel. The CVA suspension’s lower link sits below the bottom bracket, which puts bike’s virtual instant center ahead of the drivetrain and effectively isolates the drivetrain from the rear triangle. When you press on the pedals, nothing’s lost to compressing the suspension, and you won’t suffer kickback from chainstay growth when taking advantage of the 29er’s ability to push on across rocky trails.

Niner Jet 9 Carbon 3-Star XT 1x11 Complete Mountain Bike

Adding to CVA’s trail appeal is a low ratio of shock stroke to suspension movement. This decreases the amount of preload needed, which translates to smooth, effective damping and less drag on the shock seals. Niner trusts its CVA design to RockShox with the Monarch RT rear shock and kits out this 3-star build with a RockShox Pike RC up front, a smooth-shifting Shimano XT one-by drivetrain, and Niner hoops wrapped in versatile Maxxis Ikon tires to tackle anything the trail throws your way.

Niner is ready to shed some light on what 29” wheels can do when you give them nearly 6” of travel to play with. The confidence inspiring geometry provides slack enough angles that you might even find yourself contemplating entering a few Downhill races. Yet it’s not so slack that you’d find it difficult cornering tight turns or climbing. The WFO 9 is constructed with air formed tubing which allows for careful shaping and control over wall thickness to optimize strength and stiffness in key areas. These Niner hydroformed tubes paired with the tapered headtube and 12x142mm rear axle ensure the WFO 9 remains stiff and strong from head to rear axle.

Niner WFO Jenson GX 1 Bike 2015

The WFO 9 doesn’t handle like any other long-travel bike you’ve ever ridden before. The 29” wheel platform provides a shallower angle of attack when riding over obstacles, which increases your ability to get down the most rutted sections with ease, while the tapered headtube reduces fork deflection, keeping your line straight and true. You’ll find yourself getting down some seriously sketchy sections quicker and easier than before.

Niner WFO 9 jenson

The setup features Niner’s patented CVA suspension which is the only suspension system created for the sole purpose to be used on 29” bikes. In other words, Niner did not modify suspension that was created for a 26” wheel. The CVA suspension was created with the goal of crafting an efficient suspension platform for the 29″ bike. Due to the location of the lower pivot bolt, chain torque effectively isolates and cancels out the forces that can create inefficiency in pedal stroke. The result is unparalleled pedal efficiency, and remarkable sensitivity. CVA has excellent small bump compliance, to ensure that your ride is as smooth as it is fast.

This 2015 Jenson exclusive build pairs the WFO 9 with SRAM’s praised X1/GX drivetrain. The wide range GX drivetrain brings Sram’s 11-speed mountain drivetrain to the masses with a lower price point without sacrificing performance. while it is slightly heavier than Sram’s offerings, you’ll still be offered a wide gear range thanks to the Sram XG 1150 10-42 teeth cassette. Race Face’s Ride Narrow 32 teeth 1x powers their own Turbine wheels wrapped with Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s 29-inch tires.

With Niner’s slack headtube, shorter top tube and chainstays, long-travel, and SRAM 1x set-up, after it’s all said and done, the WFO 9 is the closest thing to a downhill 29er. The larger wheel gobbles up roots, rocks and ruts so much its almost unfair, while the new geometry allows it to still handle with the precision and flickability of its smaller wheeled relatives. Between the bigger wheel size, the nearly 6” of travel, and the new geometry and suspension system, the Niner is faster and smoother, both up hill and downhill; a pure bred Enduro machine to say the least!

Niner JET 9 Carbon XX1 Jenson Custom Bike

Though 29ers originally debuted as cross country bikes, Niner has taken the big wheeled bike and made it into a versatile, high performance trail machine. Capitalizing on the rolling efficiency of the 29” wheel, Niner designed the ride to be more than just an efficient climber. Using their patented Niner CVA suspension technology and their trail proven geometry, Niner was able to create a 29” bike that was not only efficient, but was also nimble enough to handle the endless rock sections, drops, and even the occasional jumps that can be found on most modern trails. The Jet 9 features the same geometry and handling characteristics as the Jet 9 RDO, blended with SRAMS’s legendary XX1 drivetrain to deliver a formidable blend of simplicity and functionality.

Niner JET 9 Carbon XX1 Jenson

The highly sought after XX1 group is SRAM’s premium 11 speed mountain drivetrain. This is a no compromise set of parts optimized for high Niner performance. The set up is much lighter than any 2×10 setup out there, whilst still offering a wide gear range, thanks to the 10-42T X-Dome cassette. The new cranks feature carbon arms and a removable spider along with SRAM’s new X-Sync tooth profile which acts as a built in chain guide system. The rear derailleur’s X-Horizon design eliminates any vertical movement, reducing shift forces and preventing “ghost shifting”. The drivetrain on the Niner brings the latest and greatest SRAM technologies to your beautiful Niner bike, offering a simple, clean, and more importantly, reliable drivetrain.

Niner JET 9 Carbon XX1 Jenson

The JET 9 frame is made from their highly durable carbon fiber that is backed by a Niner 5 year, C5 warranty and is beautifully shaped and finished. The front end suspension is kept in the hands of SRAM with a RockShox PIKE RCT3 Solo Air 120mm fork with a 15mm axle, while the rear suspension is provided by a Fox Float CTD that features Fox’s CTD (Climb/Trail/Descent) adjustable suspension technology to deliver 100mm of smooth, plush, yet responsive travel.

This empowering unity of performance-driven XX1 components that augment the beauty and versatility of the JET 9 frame bring forth a bike that’s fast and lightweight enough to tackle a weekend cross country race, while maintaining the durability to survive bumpy trail adventures.

2015 Niner RLT 9 Jenson Ultegra Mavic

If you enjoy riding, and don’t necessarily dig the hassle of packing up and driving to the trailhead, the RLT 9 just might be your ticket. Niner’s installment for 700c wheels, the RLT 9 was intentionally built for the curious and spontaneous. If you mainly stick to pavement and fire roads you can use 700c wheels to run road or cross tires, or if you want something a little wider (up to 1.75”) you can slap on a pair of 29” wheels thanks to the 135mm rear hub spacing. The slightly longer Niner chainstays, slightly lower bottom bracket, and a slacker head tube angle make the RLT 9 a real gravel grinder that’s ready to be whatever kind of bike you need it to be.

Niner RLT Jenson Ultegra Mavic Bike 2015

The Ultegra Jenson custom build also features a RLT 9 hydroformed tube set paired with a gravel-tuned, to make this a bike you can truly ride on and off road all day, along with a custom painted Carbon fork to gobble up all those road and “not-road” vibrations. The RLT 9 features internal cable routing for a Di2 setup and uses a PF30 bottom bracket shell allowing you to run it geared or single speed via a new BioCentric 30.

Niner RLT Jenson Ultegra Mavic 2015

Race a proper cross on Saturday, spin the back roads on Sunday, and commute on Monday. The RLT 9 is exactly what you’d think of when hearing they made a 700c drop bar bike: beautiful, versatile and ready to spar!

■■■ Deck the 2015 frame, in a worthy list of components for riding fun singletrack.

Back in 2012, Niner made it so the carbon fiber JET 9 models were split into a top-level RDO version and a standard Carbon version. The carbon version was basically the prior RDO, and the new Jet RDO got a lighter front triangle, carbon rocker arms and rear thru axle. Now, you get the lighter front end and an updated 12×142 rear axle, a nice upgrade since the prior model was still using the original JET 9 carbon rear end with QR. Plus, the frameset comes in $100 less, and most build kits are $100 to $200 less.

As a brand, Niner is moving more toward a complete bike company rather than just a frame company. While the margins at the lower end don’t offer quite as much wiggle room, it does make the higher end bikes more price competitive, helping riders bump up the amount of bike they’re getting at a given price point.

Niner Jet9 Carbon 2015 black-slate frame

The Jet carbon keeps the PFBB30 bottom bracket shell and alloy rockers of the prior model. We rode the new alloy Jet when it was introduced and it’s an amazingly stiff bike, riding virtually identically to its carbon siblings, so our hunch is this new combo unit won’t sacrifice ride quality for the cost concessions. The front triangle also adds external routing for a dropper post, a new feature for the Jet.

Frame price for the Niner is $2,199, which includes a Rockshox Monarch RT shock, seat collar, Maxle and headset. It’s available in the choices of orange/yellow or black/slate. While complete bikes are $3,299 (Deore), $3,599 (SLX), $3,999 (XT) and $4,699 (X01). All builds get Niner cockpits (carbon or alloy depending on model) and Niner’s alloy wheels.

Please note: Geometry on both Rip 9 and the Jet rides stays the same.

■■■ Deck the 2015 frame, in a worthy list of components for riding fun singletrack.

Niner’s two most popular full suspension frames, the XC-oriented JET 9 and the do-it-all RIP 9, both get new base level carbon models that bring their price points down a bit while bringing the standards up to date. For hardtail fans, the EMD becomes a single-model entry level bike that gets anyone on a 29er for just $1,500.

For the new JET and RIP, the big story is that they combine an alloy rear triangle with a carbon front to create a new mid-tier offering. Now, you’ll be able to choose from Alloy, Carbon (with alloy rear) or full-carbon RDO bikes. For the RIP, this is an entirely new tier. For the JET 9, it may seem like a slight downgrade from the current C model, but what their not making a big deal of is that this model of Rip’s front triangle is now RDO level. So, you’re getting the top-end carbon front triangle with their excellent alloy rear end.

Both use an alloy rear end that’s functionally similar to the one found on the all-alloy models, tweaked only to accommodate the different linkage interface on the front triangles. The alloy rear is about half a pound heavier than the carbon rear, keeping the RDO models well established as Niner’s top offerings with higher end complete bike specs, too.

The RIP 9 Carbon model keeps the full rocker arms and oversized angular contact bearings of the RDO, and it sticks with the standard threaded BB shell!

Niner RIP9 Carbon linkage

The frame is built around a 125mm travel rear end and designed for forks from 120mm to 140mm, though we’ve been running our RIP with a 150mm fork and it’s a bomber. It has a removeable ISCG05 mounting tab and can run either a single or double crankset. Like the latest RIP Alloy, it uses a 12×142 rear thru axle. Max tire clearance is 2.4.

This new mid-level Niner model comes in at $2,199 for the frame, a healthy $700 drop from the RDO frameset. The alloy model is $350 less at $1,849. Complete bikes will run $3,299 (Deore), $3,699 (SLX), $4,799 (XT) and $5,399 (X01).  All models get a Niner cockpit and use the Rockshox Monarch RT rear shock.

With the speed of (Race Day Optimized) the Jet 9 RDO employs numerous years of research to give you world renowned Niner technology, that’s always been based, exclusive around the 29er platform. The Jet 9 RDO qualifies as the full-on race machine, but mind you it’s a competent trail machine as well. Niner has proven mastery in the art of the 29ers, and they continue to demonstrate just that in the Jet 9 RDO RS1 for 2015.

Niner Jet 9 RDO Limited Edition XX1 RS1(editors’ note: photo depicts XX1, and not the XO1 stated here..)

This Race Day Optimized carbon fiber frame production process that Niner employs is known as Carbon Compaction System. As it utilizes a pre-shaped Styrofoam mold encased by a bladder that the carbon is then laid around. The firm Styrofoam core provides the desired shape and a solid platform for the carbon layup. That bladder is then inflated to fully compress the carbon against the outer metal mold for accurate compaction and a smooth inside wall.

The New Niner JET 9 RDO

The Jet 9 RDO comes in two different color formats of Black Yellow-blaze shown just above, and the Black w/Red displayed at the top. Which brings us to the 4 Star build, as this edition of the Jet 9 RDO offers a nice blend of technical features, while keeping that keen eye on the performance to value ratio.

Allowing for the Jet 9 RDO 4 Star build to cast the SRAM X01 11s system. This highly sought after 1×11 system is slightly heavier than SRAM’s flagship XX1 (the difference is just under 100g) which is still way lighter than any of the 2×10 setups. The SRAM 1x system, makes shifting simple, while the synchronized design delivers confidence in the face of any terrain. By having the 10-42 cassette and a 32T ring up front, this build provides a versatile gear range to do-it-all.

The highlight here is the unmistakable RockShox RS1 29er inverted suspension fork.  This MTB fork brings a new approach to XC rider with a revolutionary chassis design that integrates the fork’s steerer tube, crown and legs into one carbon piece. While the interface between the hub and dropouts, is called Predictive Steering, which enables for the inverted design to be light enough for XC racing, yet stiff enough for trail riding. And lastly the large 27mm diameter Torque Tube oversized-axle creates an unbreakable bond, locking the lowers in place to maximize torsional stiffness and reduce any twisting.

Rounding out the Jet 9 RDO 4 Star, are reliable ZTR Arch Ex wheels to provide true tubeless technology. To stop it they utilized Shimano’s XT M785 hydraulic disc brake system to provide ample stopping power. The Jet 9 RDO build is completed with their own brand of components for the cockpit, that includes a carbon seatpost and handlebar.

29er MTB System:

The company Niner, has literally been on a mission for numerous years to perfect what the 29-inch-wheeled hardtail MTB is all about. And without fail once again the Air 9 Frame has been updated for 2015. Niner employed not only new paint work, but several structural carbon upgrades like a 12x142mm thru-axle, making their mission quite clear.

This spectacular AIR 9 borrows heavily from their AIR 9 RDO race rocket. At the core of every setup is extensive computer-based finite element analysis, and here it’s used to develop a high modulus carbon fiber structure with optimized weaves, layups, and tube shapes.

Niner Air 9 Carbon 2015 Frameset

The weight saving measures haven’t been taken quite as far as the lighterweight RDO, but the AIR 9 Carbon is still adequately svelte. The swooping lines aren’t chosen for aesthetics, rather they’re designed to minimize chatter and guide impact forces to the stronger parts of the frameset. Chain torque goes directly to the rear wheel via the Air 9’s oversized PF30 bottom bracket shell and shapely chainstays, while trail vibrations are damped by the swooping seatstays.

Also Niner ties the bottom bracket to the precision-enhancing tapered head tube via a large down tube to ensure it tracks true and responds to every input.

Niner Air 9 Carbon Frame 2015

The recommended frame travel is 80 to 100mm for the suspension fork, or a rigid unit with a 470mm axle to crown length and 45mm offset. Unsurprisingly, its award-winning carbon fork shares those exact dimensions. Titanium plates are incorporated gracefully into the design to protect against chain drop and chain suck.

The Air 9 employs a tapered headtube comes outfitted with a Cane Creek IS42/28.6|IS52/40 integrated headset. You will also need a 31.6mm seatpost with a 35mm seat clamp. The Air 9’s post-style brake mount is located on the chainstay, and accepts either a 160mm rotor, or a bigger 185mm rotor with the correct adapter. The maximum chainring size is limited to a 32t middle ring. Most standard triple chainring cranksets will clear, and if you choose a more modern double.

DESCRIPTION:

For some highly crafty Niner steel tubing and design work, this might possibly become one of the most sought after Fat Bikes out there.. Niner is crafting all of  their very sleek Ros 9’s in their factory based in California.

The new Ros combines the best qualities of both worlds, by offering the amazing flotation and traction of fattie wheels, along with the added power and stability offered by a 29er wheel size. Allowing this 29+ platform to deliver on the promise of a solid, confidence-inspiring ride.

Niner Ros 9 Plus X1
So this is what you get when you cross a 29er with a fat bike, the ROS 9 Plus! By using the insanely popular ROS 9 long travel hardtail geometry to draft up the blueprint for the ROS Plus, they have essentially introduced the 1rst trail-esque rigid 29+ shredding machine.

As these bikes are still a considerably young concept, they’ve traditionally taken on a short travel cross country geometry, whereas the ROS+ slackens the headtube and shortens the chainstays to make this a true fun factory of a bike. The tire clearance can accommodate 3.0 tires which bolster traction and plushness to previously unknown levels.  The frame is constructed from 4130 ChroMoly steel which lives up to its reputation as a bombproof material that will absorb the abuse inflicted by the most unforgiving of trails, offering the resilience and ride quality you want for unruly riding.
