2018 Wilier Cento10NDR endurance road bike smooths bumps w/ micro suspension

After three years of development based off the lighter weight Cento10AIR race bike introduced back last May, this new 2018 Wilier Cento10NDR model adds an endurance racer to the sarting line for longer, rougher races. Which translates too a much more comfortable ride on the cobbled classics. It also means a perfect long distance machine, for local gran fondos.

At the heart they employed the Actiflex suspension system, which is new and pairs a tiny rocker arm with a “technopolymer” insert to offer 3mm of rear wheel travel. The result isn’t so much suspension as it provides great vibration damping. During normal use, it barely flexes, just soaking up the vibrations to keep you from fatigue quite so quickly.

Wilier Cento10NDR Dura Ace Complete
2018_wilier cento_10_NDR

Shown above is an insert which comes in three different densities to suit the weight of different riders. It’s reported to be made with a multi-compound material, to balance reactions for temperature, making it perform consistently from -40ºC to +150ºC (-40ºF to 302ºF).

The chainstays are designed to flex slightly to let the Actiflex do its job, but are otherwise shaped (asymmetrically) to maintain the lateral and torsional stiffness expected of a race bike.

There’s room for 32mm wide tires front and rear, and that’s as measured on modern wide rims. They’ve even made provisions for running direct mount rim brakes so the teams can use it in any event regardless of UCI whims.

When compared to their Cento10AIR, this new NDR adds a minimal 100g to the it’s weight. The stack is a bit higher while the reach is a bit shorter, which is common place of a modern endurance bike, and it makes for a much better look than adding a huge stack of spacers.

Shown is their stylish aero Barra and Stemma front cockpit that thankfully allows for you to run the shift cables/wires through both bar and stem to make your setup more aero. It’s actually has a far cleaner look to it as well.

The Wilier Cento10NDR is now available in the US as a complete with a Dura Ace Disc Mechanical for $7999 or Ultegra Di2 Disc for $7349. Options for 90, 100, 110, 120, 135mm stems and 40, 42, 44 cm handlebars. The frame/fork will run $3499, sizes are XS to XXL.

Ren Cycles Appia Titanium w/ Waypoint Gravel

Portland-based REN Cycles have released three new stock frame models, growing out from the original Waypoint offering. We first saw them through their custom, US-made builds under the Ti Cycles brand. With the REN brand, they add the option of moving production to Asia and sticking to stock geometry to keep cost dow, while still delivering great titanium options to the masses. Their new Appia is a rim brake road race frame, the Omen a new QR cyclocross/adventure bike, and the Ivan is their thru-axle-capable cross/adventure, even singlespeed option. Plus, all three come with a 5-year warranty. Hop past the break for more details on three new whips…

Appia

The Appia is a classic road race bike featuring double-butted main tubes and S-bend stays. Borrowing most of the geometry from their popular Ti Cycles Hyak, the Appia has a slightly sloping top tube and angles that are steep enough for racing but comfortable enough for long days in the saddle. Like all the REN frames, the new roady has a replaceable full titanium derailleur hanger and comes Di2 compatible. Plus, most will be happy to hear that it sticks with a regular BSA threaded bottom bracket. The Appia is available in seven stock sizes from 50cm-62cm. 50cm frames are designed around 650c wheels and a 44mm headtube, while 52cm+ use 700c wheels and tapered headtubes. Pricing starts at $2195/€1955 for frame, fork, and headset.

Waypoint

The Waypoint is REN’s new cyclocross & adventure bike hybrid. With fender mounts and threaded bosses on the stays and top-routed bottom-pull front derailleur compatibility, not to mention quick release dropouts front and back, REN clearly intend the Waypoint to be built as a more traditional touring or cyclocross bike, but with modern trimmings like disc brakes and a 44mm head tube. Available in five sizes ranging from 49 to 61cm and all using 700c wheels, pricing starts at $1895/€1690 for frame only, with frameset options from $2095/€1870.

Ivan

Perhaps the most versatile of the new frames is the Ivan, with disc brakes, rack mounts, sliding dropouts, and even belt drive compatibility. Along with the same 44mm headtube, BSA bottom bracket and 3al-2.5v oversize butted titanium found throughout the line, the Ivan aims to be a one-bike stable, from cyclocross racing to gravel touring.

Di2 ready, and compatible with front derailleurs, it can be built in nearly any combo you can dream up. Like the Omen, the Ivan also starts at $1895/€1690 for a frame.

Plane Frameworks Introduces Custom Carbon w/ new process

The Australian custom carbon bike maker Plane Frameworks have apparently made solid steps forward toward their process. They started with one-off machined EPS molds for each bike and their own in-house carbon pre-preg, Plane has something of a luxury of being able to fine tune each subsequent bike to continue to evolve the design and to create a bike truly unique to each customer. Their disc brake road bike is a good example of the process, now completely incorporating a number of refinements they have been in the works on several different bikes over the last couple of months…

The Plane Frameworks bike gets boxy tube profiling, plus a new set of flat mount disc brake dropouts that were produced completely in house for more space at the rear end.

It’s interesting to note here that Plane doesn’t work with off-the-shelf (out-of-the-refrigerator?) carbon pre-preg sheets like many carbon builders. Instead they feel more in control by starting with a range of raw fiber weaves, and then impregnating them all in-house with the same Kinetix R240 epoxy resin. Working with a more local resin distributor, they can maintain they same 40% resin content across all different moduli of carbon, end up with a resin that cures at the lower temperature tailored to their process, and yields a major improvement in resulting strength & material toughness.

Their bikes are crafted by heat-shrinking a first layer of carbon over the machined EPS mold to set its shape, before completing the total layup on top of the core.

The new Plane Frameworks also gets new chain and seatstay designs, a new seatpost clamp setup, and revised internal routing. Altogether the tube shape changes also led Plane to rework each junction to be less webbed, and to create a wider, stiffer bottom bracket with a dramatically reduced chainstay bridge/shelf.

At first glance the new bike retains the same look of the previous models, but it clearly has made a big step forward in the details. The result, a bike that is at one time stiffer, stronger, and lighter – down under 900g. Plus, Plane Frameworks says that the newly refined design allows them to build their unique one piece monocoque construction even easier into the full custom geometry that their clients are looking for.

Pells Roar Disc Ultegra Road Bike

Roar Ultegra Carbon Disc Bike

Roar comes highly adapted with a tapered headtube, as the 2017 Pells Roar utilizes the 1.5″ lower headset socket for the same low weight of classical (upper socket) headset, but with stiffness of 1.5″ construction. Thanks to this construction the headtube is stiffer, allowing the Pells bike to have better stability in high speeds, steering is more accurate and the bike is thus easier to control. Carbon drop out – full carbon drop outs reduce weight of the frame.

Pells Roar Ultegra build

For your unique Roar, the frame is offered with plenty of high performance right where it’s needed most. All to mate perfectly with the Ultegra drivetrain from Shimano, while the frame has inner cable routing. This top model rolls with a Mavic’s Ksyrium wheelset with axle sizes being a rear 12×142 mm and front 10×100 mm. These wheels were made directly for great aerodynamics and tires up to 30 mm can be used. Main design layout is set and one color available (matte black/red).
Carbon dropout – full carbon dropouts reduce weight of the frame. Weight of frame: 940 g (size 53), seat post 27.2 mm.

With Shimano individuals will get one of the best drivetrains for the road, as this model is quite the exclusive frame with top racing parameters. New style of rear triangle with Superlite Seatstay Vacuum provides a bit of flexibility in a vertical direction and gives significant amount of comfort while sizable stiffness for putting the power down is a guaranteed.

The BB86 – extended crank link in the frame with integrated bearing (Press Fit). Thanks to this construction Pells can produce the crank section wider and thus stiffer as well. The bearing is better protected, thus allowing for the Pells Shimano Ultegra BB/crankset to mount way easier.

Trek Super Commuter+ 8S speeds up the ride to work

2017 Trek Super Commuter 8S

Trek Super Commuter+ 8S spring 2017

Super Commuter

The team of 2017 Trek Super 8S designers want to make sure there’s no reason to hit the snooze button when your morning ride to work feels like a dream with the Trek electric bicycle. Makes life Super fun getting where you need to go exactly where you want to be in superstar style.

E-bikes continue to grow in popularity, and there is no mistaking their practicality for the commute to work or running errands by bike. Along with better technologies, these e-bikes are also starting to look better too. A good example is their new commuter with Super power which combines decent looks (for an e-bike of course) with a boost of speed and improved usability.

2017 Trek Super e-bike Commuter Bosch 8S power_pack

Like many others, they looked to Bosch to supply the electric oomph, pairing a 500Wh PowerPack battery with the 350W Performance Speed motor, and a Purion display showing battery level, range, speed & more. The bike’s motor can get you up to 28mph (45km/h) and its battery is even protected by a special downtube armor plate. Integrated fenders are a sensible touch, with the rear fender even building in integrated pannier support to haul your bags on the way to the office…

Trek E-bike disc brake

The 8S alloy frame with its integrated downtube battery gets paired with a thru-axle carbon fork while Trek selected Shimano’s SLX rear derailleur to manage the 1×11 drivetrain and wide 11-42 cassette. Deore hydraulic brakes keep you from getting too rowdy as you zip around town. Predictably, Bontrager components finish out the stem, bars, saddle & seatpost. Formula wheels with double walled rims and sealed bearings pair with fat 2.4″ Schwalbe Super Moto-X 650b tires for durable rolling stock with ample grip to lay down the pedal assist.

The Super is available only in red, comes in four sizes (45, 50, 55 & 60cm), and retails for a cool $5000. Only available through your local dealer, this one will add a little Get Up N’ Go to your otherwise steady commute.

Factor’s 02 is the lightest and most versatile setup, then equip it with Di2, to deliver on that refined, inspiring ride you’ve dreamed about!

Overview

The 2017 02 is termed a beautiful chameleon. Factor sought out for it to be their most versatile bike as it combines minimalist beauty with exceptional performance, riding lightly at a scant 1740g for setup, it’s equally at home effortlessly consuming the mountains of France as it is rolling sublimely over Belgian pavé.

They built the frame to integrate perfect with fully aero integrated cockpit, along with lightweight and aero Svelte fork with size-specific tapered steerer, and rolling on CeramicSpeed bearings throughout, the O2 delivers a ride of pure luxury performance that’s inspiring, refined and intoxicating.

As with all Factor models, it employs a peerless combination of master craftsmanship, the very finest materials, innovative engineering and manufacturing processes all brought together with the highest possible level of finishing and attention to detail in their wholly-owned factory; with more than 20 years of cutting edge expertise, the O2 is the pinnacle in carbon building mastery.

There’s no compromising – anywhere – so the results of this single minded approach are clear as soon as you swing a leg over the O2. Even when climbing – except for the most extreme of gradients – aerodynamics remain critical to performance. That’s why Factor worked tirelessly to ensure the setup is both as light and as aero as possible. The Factor Svelte fork has one of the smallest surface areas of any fork, the carbon tube profiling has been rigorously engineered to minimise drag and save still further precious watts.

Of course, the 02’s exceptional lightweight construction doesn’t come at the sacrifice of stiffness or comfort: asymmetrical chainstays balance out chain pull and deliver magnificent power transmission while our micro seatstays provide all day comfort. In addition, each of the individual fibres have been obsessively selected and expertly combined to ensure our pursuit of ride perfection is achieved: the O2 responds both immediately and intuitively to your every input with a lively, interactive ride that also gently filters out fatiguing road buzz and vibrations to provide total comfort and confidence. When you kick for the summit, the O2 soars; when you carve into the turn, it inspires, and when you hit the cobbles, the O2 excels.

Concept Description

The Ridley Carbon road bikes are well-rounded enough to include everything from long, mountainous stages to punchy circuit races and frenetically fast crits, as Ridley designed them to handle all of it. It may not climb as well as the Helium or handle centuries as comfortably as the Fenix, but it’s low weight, FAST technology, and oversized Ridley Noah tubing combine for efficient power transfer and aerodynamics that put a premium on speed across the widest variety of conditions.

Noah Ultegra Road Review black yellow

The Noahs’ oversized tubes earn the industry SL suffix—which is assumed to denote the industry superlative Super Light—through their inclusion of a mix of 60, 40, and 30-ton high-modulus carbon fiber. Both the Noah Fast and Noah top out at 50-ton, and it’s inclusion of 60-ton means it can use less material at key points while maintaining the same efficiency, which in turn lowers Ridley’s weight. As with the original Ridley, the various carbon moduli are used in different areas of the frame based on desired properties of stiffness, weight, durability, and road-noise damping.

This targeted blend of materials is a common practice across the industry, though few manufacturers go to the extreme of using 60t carbon. The also features a tapered headtube for sharp tracking and efficient power transfer, and the PF30 bottom bracket, internal cable routing, and electronic Di2 group compatibility that are all but expected in frames of this level. Unlike other frames, though, they incorporated the Future Aero Speed Technology (FAST) F-Surface design, which involves fluted channels running the lengths of forward-facing tubes to trip air into a manageable layer of turbulence. That tripped layer detaches later and more cleanly, reducing the frame’s wake and overall wind drag.

frame

The Noah’s distinctive, high-modulus carbon fiber fork features an open channel running down the middle of each leg. This FAST F-Split Fork channel design is revolutionary in its ability to guide incoming air away from the spokes to reduce turbulence and drag, which keeps the airstream around the wheel smooth and fast. By pairing this fork with the FAST F-Surface design, they claim the Noah enjoys a 3-5% reduction in drag over frames without FAST design. This means more speed with less effort, all thanks to a little bit of surface air routing.

Also for the build, they didn’t cut any corners here. They wanted a real bike for the real cyclists among us, so Shimano’s newly redesigned 11-speed Ultegra drivetrain gets high praise. All the while another indicator that they intended for the bike to be ridden hard, they didn’t skimp on the cassette, which is easy to do since it’s not heavily branded. The Fulcrum Racing Aero wheelset is another strong spot on the bike, and, combined with these bombproof components, is all but guaranteed to keep you worry free for years.

2017 Wilier Cento 10 AIR Ultegra Di2

2017 Wilier Cento 10 Air Shimano Ultegra Di2 Bike
2017 Wilier Cento 10 Air carbon review

Cento Ultegra Di2

The 2017 Wilier Cento 10 Air takes style and performance to a higher level with aerodynamics, low weight, and high ride quality to make the new Cento a unique racing machine.

2017 Wilier Cento 10 Air Shimano Ultegra Di2 Bike

Sold as a complete bike with Shimano Ultegra Electronic 11sp and Shimano R21 wheels. Includes Alabarda integrated bar/stem.

This Cento now revolutionizes all the wind cheating concepts that were utilized up till now. Research, study, and testing have redefined and redesigned the tube profiles, departing from the traditional concept that the thinner they are, the more aero they are. Now the bike is designed with the overall system in mind. The goal is to push the cooperation of all the components with the frame, to have the best performance.

ALABARDA is the brand new monocoque integrated bar. This handlebar is a Wilier design, born to match perfectly with the new Cento, like almost any other Wilier Triestina road bikes. The bar is designed following NACA algorithm, as the new Cento frame. The aero performance is at a very high level, every detail has been designed to make the wind disappear.

AERODYNAMIC PROFILE

There are 2 ways to design an aero profile, use a pencil on a white board or use NACA profiles. NACA is the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. It was born in the ‘30s and exploded in the ‘60s for a mathematical approach to the complex world of aerodynamics. The shapes of their tubing were born following the NACA “algorithm”, and then adapted for different uses needed on a bike. They considered aerodynamics, weight, and UCI rules limitations to find the best compromise. The result is the new Centoshape. The downtube, for example, is a NACA profile 0028, which is then cut following the Kamm Tail Theory: this allowed them to keep a high aero performance, save weight, increase torsional stiffness, and stay within UCI rules.

IMPACT FRONT

Another important point about aerodynamics is in the frontal area’s footprint. As you can see, the Cento front fork is much wider than usual, and the legs of the fork are farther from the wheel. This design helps to reduce turbulent air flowing through the bike, with less pressure and less drag. When compared with the Cento 1, this model displayed here has 2.86% more frontal area, but has an 8% improved wind efficiency.

DIRECT MOUNT BRAKES

The wider fork and rear stays allow us to choose direct mount brakes. This type of brake offers more power and better modulation when braking, and of course, more clearance for tires up to 28mm. This kind of brake matches better with the design and the function of the frame.

BALANCED DESIGN

Like other recent frames, the Cento also employs balanced design. This solution brings small differences on tube sizing. Every tube of every frame size, from XS to XXL – has different diameters. Balanced design makes any frame perfect and balanced compared to its size.

Canyon Ultimate CF Evo 10.0 LTD / SL

Canyon Ultimate CF Evo 10.0 LTD

+ ULTIMATE CF LTD

Weighing just 665 grams for the new Canyon frame, and a further 270 grams for the fork, the ride is obnoxious light. They built two new models, the lightest, at just 4.96kg is the Canyon Ultimate Evo 10.0 SL which will set you back £8,999. While the heavier but higher spec Ultimate Evo 10.0 LTD shown above comes with SRAM Red eTap, priced for a whopping £11,599 and weighs a bit more at 5.8kg.

Canyon Ultimate CF Evo 10.0 SL

+ ULTIMATE CF SL

Examined from the outside the Ultimate frame looks much like the brand’s standard CF. That’s because rather than strip back the bike to its bare bones they kept all of the standard characteristics and functionality of the regular model.

Each part of the Ultimate, from its fork to its seatpost to its integrated cockpit, has been subjected to the same tests and standards as the rest of the Ultimate range, to create a bike that is meant for the roads, not just display.

The aim being to produce a bike, that although one of the world’s lightest, is still usable. At least to those who can swallow the price.

Ultimate Evo Saddle

Despite its almost conventional looks, beneath the frame’s surface lurk a new layup and materials which have helped bring its overall mass down to almost gravity defying levels.

Canyon claims the secrets behind the Evo’s outstanding figures ‘lie within an extensively optimized layup, consisting of ultra-high modulus pitch-based fibers that required special permission from the Japanese Ministry of Defense to access.’

SEE RELATED

Once you’ve gone to great lengths and basically plundered those ‘Japanese state secrets’ to make your frame as light as possible it would be ludicrous to stick anything but the world’s best component setup on it.

To this end the Canyon spec list of the top model includes Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer wheels, THM Clavicula M3 cranks and Fibula brakes along with a custom one-piece carbon bar-stem combo.

Considering that the wheels alone retail for 5,000 pounds the somewhat chunky £11,599 cost of the Ultimate higher spec complete bike isn’t really that surprising. A bit more temperate is the frame, which retails at a comparatively modest £2,949.

2017 Pinarello GAN K Disk Ultegra Road Bike Review

2017 Pinarello GAN K Disk Ultegra Yellow

2017 Pinarello GAN K Disk Ultegra Yellow

GAN K Disk Ultegra Road Bike

The 2017 Pinarello GAN Carbon Disk features similar drop-dead-gorgeous styling as the new Dogma F10, with its signature curves and aerodynamic detailing that make it stunning and fast. This new model was developed in the line though to replace the Rokh and the Raza K. And both those bikes were based off the Kobh, and the Dogma K8-Disk. If you’re not up on all these Pinarello models, the big thing to know is that the K is what they use to designate their cobblestone cruisers for racing, but they also double as endurance road bikes at home on roads of all conditions, and ideally suited to gran fondos and other epic events.

Pinarello GAN K Disk Ultegra 2017 Black /Red

Geometry nowaday’s depicts what the bike is made to do. The Gan K shares a seat angle and chainstay length with the Dogma K8’s. They also share flattened and lengthened chainstays for better vertical compliance, and aero seat stays. Likewise, the K bikes get bigger bottom bracket drop, 72mm on most sizes, than the Dogma F8 and Gan S. And you get a longer fork rake, 47mm as well. These all contribute to a more stable ride that allows for frame flex to absorb the bumps without losing efficiency due to lateral flex. As the Gan line is designed for people who don’t have the flexibility of WorldTour riders, there is more stack and less reach than you’ll find on a Dogma. As this is an endurance bike, you’ll find a higher head tube than on the other Gan models.

Pinarello GAN K Disk Fork

For Pinarello tube shaping, they worked with a mix of carbon plies, including Torayca’s T600 cloth, to shape a bike that is aero without the discomfort that aero bikes often possess. The headtube has the aero shaping of the Dogma F8, with a notch for a Di2 junction box, while the disk specific fork legs have been splayed out a bit for better aerodynamics as well. The down and seat tubes utilize the FlatBack truncated airfoil which is aero, laterally stiff, while allowing vertical compliance. Cable routing is internal for both aerodynamics and cleanliness. It’s Pinarello’s Think2 system, meaning you can switch to electronic shifting as well, though you’ll want to pick up their accessory battery mount which fits inside the seatpost. The final touch on aero is the stem, spacers, and seatpost are all shaped to move through the wind..

The Ultegra groupset is Shimano’s mid level 11-speed set, which means you are getting the best value with this competitive groupset. The Ultegra shifts smoothly, making it comparable to it’s higher-end Dura Ace sibling.

GAN Disc 105 Road Bike

The 2017 Pinarello GAN Carbon 105 features the same eye-catching styling as the Dogma F8, with its signature curves and aerodynamic detailing that make the bike just as stunning as it is fast. This Pinarello though being constructed of T600 carbon it sacrifices a little in the weight and stiffness categories, but drops the overall cost significantly. Make no mistake, the GAN Disk is an amazing performance machine.

Pinarello GAN Disk Red

Pinarello incorporates the Flatback technology found in the Dogma F8 into the GAN, with its signature oval-front and flattened-back tubing throughout the frame and fork creating an aerodynamic profile that slices cleanly through the wind. Also featured from Pinarello are an integrated seat clamp and aero seatpost.

2017 Orbea Avant M20I Team Disc review

Avant M20I Team Bike

INCREASE YOUR CHALLENGE

This Orbea was designed for the route to be long, with some added dirt, along with that old beat up highway. Make it memorable and challenging. Bring good friends, some coffee money, and your 2017 Jenson Custom Orbea Avant Team, that borrows ride quality concepts from developing their World Cup level Alma M10, or M-Team, M-LTD, Alma M-Pro and the Alma M-20 series of hardtail mountain bikes, because they were able to create a carbon layup with natural flex patterns to greatly smoothen the ride out, even over… Cobbles.

This extraordinary bike, is versatile and capable of a wide range of uses. Ride it just as it comes and customize it to your hearts content in the future. The frame’s both disc and rim brake capable, and offers standard or electronic internal cable routing.

2017 Orbea Avant M20I Team Jenson review

Orbea is known to go through great lengths and pay close attention to every detail until they are 100% happy with a frames fit and performance. Orbea achieves this by scrutinizing the material and shaping of the tubesets and basing Avant geometry/sizing on the stack and reach of a frame, two of the most important measurements to consider for bike fit. These will determine the relationship of two vital touch points – pedals and handlebars.

Orbea Avant disc

Jenson USA has supplied the Avant with a drivetrain dominated by Shimano Ultegra Di2 11-speed components and is highlighted with a set of hydraulic disc brakes. Together they will take command of your Avant and give smooth, shifting and controlled braking. The Fulcrum Racing 5 wheelset is wrapped in 25c Vittoria Rubino rubber and FSA components for a solid cockpit. Break out the maps and keep pedaling.

2017 Pinarello Mercurio Carbon Disc Sora Bike Review

2017 Pinarello Mercurio Carbon Disc Sora Bike

Pinarello Mercurio Carbon Disc Sora Black Yellow 2017

Mercurio Carbon Disc Sora Bike

The 2017 Pinarello Mercurio Sora is a little bit of everything, but a whole lot of fun. This Pinarello is light enough to be used as a road bike, with the stack and reach to allow for an aggressive, endurance-friendly riding position. Its disc brakes make it great for riding in city traffic. It has the clearance for 28mm tires if you want to play in the mud or roll down a gravel road. Mercurio rack eyelets allow you to attach attach a rack and it becomes a commuter bike, but with disc brakes. This is a bike that is made for anything but most of all, this is made for adventures and it has the Mercurio price point to make them possible.

2017 Pinarello Mercurio Carbon Disc Sora Bike

The Mercurio is made of 24HMUD carbon which is tough enough to withstand whatever you have in mind, but costs less than what they employed in the Dogma or GAN brands. The frame comes in four sizes, with Shimano Sora components. It is also an easy bike to upgrade. Pinarello’s Think2 routing makes it simple to go electric, mechanical, or hydraulic. Also, like all new Pinarello models it has an asymmetrical frame, increasing pedaling efficiency. There is also plenty of tire clearance so you can switch the Mercurio stock tires for bigger ones. This is a great dynamic bike for the everyday rider.

Pinarello’s Flagship Dogma F-series gets faster, stiffer and lighter with newest F10

Pinarello Dogma F10 road bike 2017 red magma

Pinarello Dogma F10 road bike 2017 red magma

Leading up to the kickoff of the Pro Tour season, Pinarello has unveiled their newest race bike. Going straight from the Dogma F8 to the F10, as is typical, the new bike promises to be better in almost every way. In addition to better looks, the Dogma frame builds in a few new features in increase the aerodynamic advantage while carbon tech keeps the weight low and the stiffness high…

Many of the new additions to the F10 frame come by way of their Bolide TT model. One of those details comes in the form of their Fork Flap design which is said to better direct the flow of air around the back of the front wheel to reduce drag and improve handling. Additionally, the F10 uses a concave downtube which offers a big performance increase in aerodynamics between the downtube and water bottles.

Along with aerodynamic tweaks, the F10 also incorporates electronic control into the downtube. Called E-Link, the housing for the control unit makes for a cleaner design rather than having something hanging off the stem.

Thanks to the addition of Torayca 1100-1k carbon fiber in addition to other, the frame ends up 6.5% lighter but 7.1% stiffer. Claimed weight for a 53cm frame is 820g.

2017 Orbea Avant M20 Team D Disc Road Bike Review

Orbea Orca M20 Team Road Bike Review
2017 Orbea Avant M20 Team Road Bike Review

Avant M20 Team D Disc Bike

THIS PODIUM BOUND CARBON PLATFORM IS’NT AFRAID TO PUT IN THE TRAINING.

The Orbea displays massive tube cross-sections in the critical bottom bracket junction via a wide PF86 bottom bracket shell, as the headtube, downtube, and chainstays have been given larger diameters to work seamlessly together as a means to resist twist and more efficiently convert pedal strokes to watts. The 2017 Orbea Avant Team D borrows ride quality concepts from their World Cup Winning Alma M10, or M Team, M-LTD, Alma M-Pro and the Alma M25 series of mountain bikes, because Orbea was able to create a carbon layup with natural flex patterns to greatly smoothen the ride out, even over… dare we say? Cobbles.

The ride features Orbea’s OMP (Orbea Monocoque Performance) carbon fiber construction to make the Avant lighter. The Orbea Evolution line uses a medium-modulus carbon fiber, making it slightly thicker for this upcoming year, although still having no significant weight penalty. This by no means equates to a frame with any less of an appetite for racing.

Orbea Orca M20 Team disc

But now pair the race-hungry OMP carbon fiber Avant frameset with Shimano’s Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-speed mechanical drivetrain, FSA’s cockpit build, and Vision’s reliable set of hoops, and you’ve got a lightweight, yet resilient steed that’ll see you through the off season base miles and then happily toe the line come early spring.

Fuji has made one bike that strives above all to fill every cycling need a person could have. Narrow tires mean an efficient ride but just because the tires are narrow doesn’t mean the bike has to be equipped with drop style handlebars. Fuji’s Flat Bars on the other hand will keep the rider in a comfortable upright position while making room for easy to use trigger shifters. This mix of road, mountain, and comfort essentials bring you serious fun.

2017 Pinarello Gan GRS Carbon Ultegra

Gan GRS Carbon Ultegra

The 2017 Pinarello GAN gravel bike features elastomer suspension with flex stays, originally designed for Team Sky to comfortably ride over cobbled roads in France. The GAN bike features the same suspension found on the Dogma K8-S: thinner chainstays (which are wider horizontally for enhanced stiffness), an incorporated molded-in pivot point for the seatstays, and a rear suspension unit– the Pinarello DSS 1.0 (Pinarello Dogma Suspension System).

pinarello-gan-grs-rear-suspension

The rear dampening system isn’t the only feature that has adapted the GAN bike for gravel: the geometry has been updated to have a longer wheelbase than the GAN, smaller bottom bracket drop, and a longer headtube for a slightly more relaxed riding position, as well as space for 38mm tires. Flat mount hydraulic disc brakes provide the smooth stopping power you want when racing. The setup also includes fender mounts.

The GAN features Pinarello’s signature Flatback technology that significantly reduces aerodynamic drag with its oval-front and flattened-back tubing throughout the frame and fork, creating an aerodynamic profile that slices cleanly through the wind. The carbon fiber T600 that the GAN is constructed from makes for a stiff and powerful frame. Also featured are an integrated seat clamp and aero seatpost.

The Shimano Ultegra groupset has smooth mechanical shifting that performs exceptionally at a lighter weight than the 105 groupset that comes with the non-suspension version of the GAN GR.

Features:

  • Frame: GAN Disk high-modulus T900 carbon
  • Fork: GAN Onda high-modulus
  • Suspension: DSS 1.0 – Elastomeric Dumper and FLEX STAYS
  • Headset: Drop in bearing system 1 1/8” – 1 ½”

2017 Pinarello Treviso Carbon Disc Sora bike

Treviso Carbon Disc Sora

REFINE YOUR IN-TOWN RIDE.

Clip into a more refined ride on the 2017 Pinarello Treviso Sora Bike, to get yourself truly rolling in style. Years ago, a Pinarello rusty frame scrounged together with yard-sale pieces was a trendy way to get across town faster than walking and with freedom not found in a bus schedule, provided all the nuts and bolts held together for the trip. Things change though, and once you’ve moved on to dream bikes like the Treviso as a buttoned-down commuter kit, it’s time to upgrade and get your townie game on. Featuring a smooth shifting Shimano Sora drivetrain, powerful disc brakes, and clean aesthetics, the Treviso add a dash of functional style to the daily grind.

2017-pinarello-treviso-sora

Made from high-quality T600 fiber, the Treviso’s frame provides a responsive ride while sopping up road vibrations to keep you comfortable over the miles. Its eye-catching lines feature classic Pinarello curves, strategically placed to provide compliance where it’s needed while maintaining efficient energy transfer from the pedals into forward motion.

2017-pinarello-treviso-carbon-disc-urban-grey

Trickling down from Pinarello’s more race-oriented offerings, Think2 internal cable routing keeps cables protected, preserves uninterrupted frame lines, and opens up future upgrade options with both electronic and mechanical drivetrain compatibility. As a final touch Treviso is finished with a threaded Italian bottom bracket that does away with PressFit’s creak and longevity issues, a trend that we’re happy to see resurfacing across the industry.

  • Classic Italian commuter with modern flair
  • Composite construction for smooth, responsive ride
  • Reliable Shimano Sora drivetrain
  • Mechanical disc brakes provide ample stopping power
  • Internal cable routing for clean lines

2017 Orbea Orca M30 Bike Review

2017 Orbea Orca M30 105bike Review

Orca M30 Bike

A CARBON SETUP THAT’S NOT AFRAID TO PUT IN THE TRAINING.

The 2017 Orbea Orca borrows ride quality concepts from reviewing their World Cup Winning Alma M10, or M-team, M-LTD, Alma M Pro and the Alma M25 series of mountain bikes, becuase they were able to create a carbon layup with natural flex patterns to greatly smoothen the ride out, even over… dare we say? Cobbles.

The ride features Orbea’s OMP (Orbea Monocoque Performance) carbon fiber construction to make the Orca lighter. Their Evolution line uses a medium-modulus carbon fiber, making it slightly thicker to the sacrifice of an insignificant weight penalty. This by no means equates to a frame with any less of an appetite for racing.

But now pair the race-hungry OMP carbon fiber Orca frameset with Shimano’s 105 11-speed drivetrain, FSA’s cockpit build, and Vision’s reliable set of hoops, and you’ve got a lightweight, yet resilient steed that’ll see you through the off season base miles and then happily toe the line come early spring.

Why Cycles R+ 42c Road with two other titanium bikes

Why Cycles R+ 42c Sram Complete Road Bike

Why is a good question when it comes to a new bike brand. There are already so many companies trying to make a go at producing bikes and it seems like there is a new one launched every day. But for Adam Miller and Ben Craner of Why Cycles, the answer is simple – they are building the bikes they want to ride based on their industry and riding/racing experience.

Why Cycles Ti headtube

If you’re into fat biking, the name Adam Miller might sound familiar as he was the founder of Borealis Bikes. After selling the company, Adam moved to Ogden, UT, where he met up with local Enduro/DH shredder Ben Craner and the two started making plans for a new company, Why Cycles. While acknowledging the statement might sound cliche, Adam mentioned that they really wanted to build bikes that were all about having fun. The bikes needed to be fast, but more importantly they need to be comfortable, durable, and versatile, so you can get out there and forget about Strava or racing. Adam went on saying that they weren’t trying to create something to maximize units, but to truly offer exactly what they wanted out of a bike, then chuckled and said he hopes that resonates with consumers so they can stay in business.

The new brand may be starting with three interesting titanium creations, but we’re assured there is plenty more in the pipeline. Their first three bikes are all in completely different categories, but as Adam puts it, at Why they ride just about everything. Which is why you’ll find quite the variety of Why Cycles…

Why Cycles R+ Titanium Frame_ENVE_FORK

Starting with the “road bike,” the R+ isn’t your typical skinny tire or even fat tire gravel bike. Using what they call the highest quality Grade 9 3/2.5 titanium tubing, the R+ frame has clearance for 700×42 or 27.5×2.1” tires, but is optimized for use with 700x40mm tires. Featuring 142×12 rear hooded thru axle dropouts, the frame is optimized for 1x systems though it is 2x compatible with 50/34t clearance and the ability to run a clamp-on front derailleur. There is no routing for the front derailleur cable, so it will have to be run externally, but it can be done.

break_tab

Like all of their bikes, the R+ uses a threaded bottom bracket and even offers internal dropper post routing for a 31.6mm post. Adam points out that even on a gravel bike, dropper posts can make a huge difference and wanted to add that option for consumers. The Why Cycles are made overseas but hand built at one of the premier titanium facilities that supplies a lot of other name brands. Because of that, custom frames are not an option, but Why Cycles will be offering custom build kits as each bike is assembled in Ogden, UT.

Why full_build_Side_LAUF

On the R+, complete builds will have the option of an ENVE or  a suppler Lauf gravel fork, and frames will run $2,050, while complete builds start at $3,999.

Why Supple Seven 27.5 plus XX1 eagle complete

Moving on to the S7, or Supple Seven, the plus size ripper is designed to be a slacked out, flickable plus size hardtail. While the Seven comes with features that will make it great for bike packing as well.

rear_cassette

The sliding dropouts with Boost 148 spacing allow for 14mm longer chain stays which lengthens the wheel base for better loaded riding, and the seatstay is split to allow for a potential belt drive. Sized to fit a Seven x 2.9″ tire max, the bike will ship with 2.8″ tires and a 130mm Boost spacing fork. The namesake suppleness is achieved through various tubing shaping and butting, again using Grade 9 3/2.5 titanium tubing.

s7_bottom_bracket

Supple frame details include a 73mm threaded BB, 1x only, internal cable and dropper routing, and rack and fender mounts and like the R+, three bottle cage mounts with the downtube mount featuring three bolts for compatibility with a number of accessories.

Frames will start at $2,250, while Supple complete bikes will start out at $3,999 with a SRAM GX1 mechanical system.

Why Cycles WTF belt drive dirt jumper

Finally, there is the Why TF, or WTF. Why WTF? Because it’s an absolutely ridiculous titanium, belt drive, 27.5″ dirt jumper. And it’s awesome. Originally something they just wanted to build for themselves, Adam says they were surprised when they launched the site this morning and sold more TFs in a single day than they forecasted for the entire year.

TF details include Boost 148mm rear spacing with a belt drive compatible adjustable dropout system, 73mm threaded BB, and 27.5 wheels built around a 120mm fork. Pricing starts at $1,850 for the frame and $3,499 complete chain single speed.

WTF bike_with_evoc bag

One of the best features or added bonuses is the shipping container. Instead of using cardboard boxes that are just going to end up in a landfill, Why Cycles is shipping all complete bikes in a custom EVOC bike bag! How’s that for value added?

All Why Cycles include a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects, and a lifetime crash replacement program. Everything above is available for preorder with frames and framesets shipping in 3-4 weeks and completes shipping by the end of September.

Head over to Why Cycles.com for complete build kits, geometry, ordering, and more.

2017 Pinarello Dogma F8 Road Frameset

2017 Pinarello Dogma F8 Road Frameset

Dogma F8 Road Frameset

The 2017 Pinarello Dogma frame remains the same as it was for ’16 but has some new colors and an even bigger reputation than before. The Dogma is the winner of the biggest race on the planet and many more the ride has proven to be the ultimate road machine for not only the Pinarello racer but also the enthusiast. The F8 has a couple years under it’s belt, so it can be properly termed a true Dogma ready to rock.

Asymmetric Frame design ensures a ride quality like no other, as F8 shapes are designed to manage the rider imput to the max. Dogma also features both mechanical or electrical shifting and braking that’s managed with the Think2 System, so the Dogma seamlessly can manage any modern road group out there.
2017 Pinarello Dogma F8 Frame RED

Made from Torayca T1100 1K carbon with Pinarello Nanoalloy Technology the F8 is not only tough as they come, but crazy light and stiff to take you over the top. Begging to be the best frame you’ve ever thrown a leg over…while visually equal Dogma levels as well!

All cables are internally routed for maximum frame aerodynamics. Also the drop in Dogma Bearing System 1” 1/8 – 1”1/2 headset requires no special tools and is easy to maintain.

2017 Pinarello Dogma F8 Road Frameset cyan grey

Threaded Italian BB is proof of the Dogma heritage and understanding of when to and when not to adopt new technology. While the overall excitement of this year’s Tour is up for debate, nobody can argue with the moments of suspense and tactical genius deployed by Team Sky atop their Dogma rides.

Frame weight: 860g for the F8 size 53cm

Werking Custom Granfondo Road Model S w/ disc brake prototype

Werking cycles Model-S custom carbon road-bike

Last year Werking Cycles’ had their first custom carbon road bike, the Model A , which is a light and stiff racer. Now they’ve come back with a new Model S that employs more shaped tubing profiles than their previous bike to build in more rider comfort. While the new frame adds only about 10g over the racier bike, the Model S is targeted at longer Gran Fondo-style riding and mixes a stiff drivetrain with a bit of seatstay flex for those long days in the saddle. While the addition of a new replaceable dropout setup, Werking is now able to offer both rim brake or disc brake specific frames.

Werking Cycles Model-S frameset

Like the Model A, the new Model S is completely built by hand in Werking’s Trentino, Italy workshop. Each bike is custom made to order, so full-custom geometry is a given for each buyer. Werking will either work from the data from a professional bike fit, or work individually with each rider to come up with sizing and geometry for the buyer.

The Model S has a frame weight of less than 900g, with the size 54cm here said to weigh just 860g.

The Model S uses a modular cable routing system that puts housing inside the top & downtubes, then external along the stays, and can work with either mechanical or electronic groupsets. The Model S is made up of a new shaped T1000 tubing set, sized and bound together with a T1000 overwrap. Highlights of the tubing are boxy top & down tubes and tall squared-off chainstays for drivetrain stiffness, and thin flat seatstays for comfort.

Werking Model-S custom-carbon bike

The seat tube tapers from full-width at the BB to Werking’s own superlight carbon seatpost clamp, with an inset front derailleur braze-on. It gets an oversized 44mm headtube, with a tapered steerer fork, and uses a standard threaded bottom bracket, although PressFit versions are also available.

Something new with Model S is the move to a new interchangeable bolt-on dropout solution. This lets Werking build the Model S for either quick releases or 12mm thru-axles, without otherwise altering the frame. That also means that if you get a QR frame now and want to upgrade to a thru-axle in the future, all you would need to do is swap out the dropouts. Spacing is said to be dealt with in the modular dropout, so the QR will be 130mm and the thru-axle 12x142mm.

Werking Cycles Model-S custom-carbon road bike disc

With the addition of thru-axles, Werking also has decided to go forward with a disc brake version of the Model S. The disc version will be a completely unique frameset. It uses different seat and chainstays, and will be disc only. It’s still unclear if it will use post mount or flat mount disc standards, depending on the results of their last stage of testing.

Werking Cycles Model-S custom-carbon-road-bike disc-dropout_prototype

Currently Werking are finalizing the last prototypes of the disc bike, with a few minor tweaks still remaining. They are taking orders now though, for customers interested in the disc brake version of the Model S. It will add 100€ to the base frameset and will also have an Enve fork upgrade option.

Base pricing for the Model S is 3500€ for a frame. That includes the custom geometry Model S frame, Werking’s classic Dedacciai fork, a Chris King InSet headset, and their carbon seatpost clamp. You can also upgrade to an Enve fork if desired.

Delivery time on a custom Model S is currently about 4 months from the start of the process until delivery of the completed frame with their current system.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc Aero Pro ETAP Road Bike

2017 Specialized S-Works Venge ViAS Disc Aero Pro ETAP Road Bike

The 2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc is officially here. Utilizing all of the same aerodynamics modeling and testing as the original ViAS, along with full top-level Fact 11-R carbon fiber construction and integrated cockpit details as the rim brake Venge, they’re showing it to be about as fast as their Shiv TT bike. Basically Specialized has brought all of the aero benefits but adds real world stopping power to their top level race road bike.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc Aero Comparison graph

Assuming the ViAS data’s accurate, this pretty much dispels the notion that rotor brake bikes aren’t as aero as rim brakers.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc Aero thru-axle

The Venge bike will use 12×142 rear thru axles and 12×100 front, making it compatible with all modern thru axle wheels.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc Expert

According to Specialized, the rotor version retains all of the aerodynamic and weight targets of the original. The S-Works model gets SRAM’s eTap wireless drivetrain, a Quarq power meter on Specialized’s OSBB carbon cranks and Roval CLX 64 carbon clinchers.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc Expert Road Bike build

The “entry” level option is the Specialized Expert (shown) with an FSA SL-K carbon crankset, Shimano Ultegra mechanical shifting and hydraulic brakes and shallow DT Swiss wheels (presumably, they’re just expecting you to bring your own deep aero wheels here. Slotting between the two will be a Specialized Pro model, specs TBA.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS Disc s-works yellow

The Specialized ViAS S-Works frameset will be available in two color schemes. Pricing is:

  • S-Works VENGE ETAP – $11,500
  • S-Works VIAS FRAMSET – $4,200
  • VENGE PRO ROTOR UDI2 – $7,250
  • VENGE EXPERT ROTOR – $4,500

Available from select Specialized retailers beginning August 2016 and live on Specialized.com August 3rd.

2017 Specialized Venge ViAS S-Works disc frameset

It’s been reported Specialized sent this info ahead of schedule, but look for the bikes to be on their website starting August 3rd.

2016 NeilPryde Bura SL Frameset w/ Dura Ace Review

2016 NeilPryde Bura SL Frameset black carbon matte

Bura SL Frameset

Re-engineered for the 2016 NeilPryde season, the fresh geometry redefines the high-performance road category with asymmetric design and a new level of stiffness. Start planning your escape with the all-new NeilPryde Bura SL stiff and ultra-lightweight road bike.

burasl_chart2_en

Wherever the road takes you, the new Bura SL is the perfect ride for your getaway. Its 710g ultra-lightweight chassis combined with unsurpassed stiffness and all-day-long compliance makes the Bura the perfect companion — no matter if you’re looking to escape on an alpine climb, in the final sprint or on your Sunday morning ride.

NeilPryde Bura SL Frameset with Dura Ace

Complete rides come equiped with Shimano’s latest Dura Ace drivetrain.

Designed as an evolution of the Bura the latest edition was completely re-engineered to achieve the highest stiffness to weight ratio, ensuring the most efficient and direct power transfer. An asymmetric down-tube and seat-tube, press-fit 86 bottom bracket, a remodelled toptube and exoskeleton ribs, and an all new rear triangle are just some of the new features that further decrease weight, while allowing our engineers to increase stiffness and compliance.

NeilPryde Bura SL carbon Frame

Bura’s front triangle is made from NEILPRYDE C6.9 unidirectional carbon fiber and incorporates our proprietary Exoskeleton technology. External carbon fibre ribs integrated in the key joints of the monocoque front triangle ensure the responds immediately each time you step on the power.

The rear triangle incorporates a new exoskeleton rib design together with their One-Piece Stays — a unique design for the Bura chainstay and carbon fiber drop out. Combined with the ultra-thin seat-stays, this combination enables the Bura SL ride to be tuned for the perfect balance between power transfer and compliance, while increasing durability. The new Bura SL fork, weighing in at just 300g, has also been designed with a slight bow to smooth road chatter to improve all-day compliance.

Carbon fiber front and rear dropouts, a Press Fit 86 bottom bracket and carbon headset cups further reduce the weight without sacrificing durability or performance. That’s it: bare minimum weight and maximum performance. Ready to escape, wherever the road takes you.

2016 Ritte Ace Ultegra Review

The newest ACE employs true one-piece monocoque construction, positive molding with Ritte’s T700/T1000 Carbon Layup and integrated Di2 or mechanical cabling setups, it is no wonder the ACE has taken its spot as Ritte’s flagship road model. These manufacturing processes give the frame incredible stiffness and power transfer, yet it yields just enough to not be a harsh and uncomfortable ride.

Ritte also prvided additional ACE comfort and versatility, with a frame that can accommodate 28c tires. Run those tubeless and the ACE Ultegra quickly becomes an absurdly snappy, dangerously good looking road racing weapon.

2017 Rose X Lite CDX Disc eTap / Carbon Endurance Road Bike

2017 Rose X Lite CDX Disc Red eTap -Endurance Road Bike

X Lite Disc

The 2017 Rose CDX setup comes to you via their most popular marathon/endurance category. The Rose X Lite road bike also gets lighter by employing new higher grade carbon and some detail tweaks in the disc brake department. Take a look at some of the updates of this fabulous X Lite ride shown.

The X Lite is a premium update of the current Team CDX. The long distance marathon/endurance X Lite road bike was originally introduced with what they call a mid-range T30/40 carbon level, but due to positive feed back they decided to develop a lighter weight version, that also gets some improved standards.

The new X Lite now employs premium T40/60 blend in the same geometry, by a slightly modified frame design. The biggest visual difference is the strong kink in last season’s frame seatstays right at the tire has been replaced by a more subtle bend closer to the seat tube that does the same job of damping impacts without being so visually striking.

2017 Rose Xeon X Lite CDX_disc frame

Additionally both X Lite carbon frame and fork get updated to the growing 12mm thru-axle standards and at the same time improve tire clearance for up to 32mm rubber for use on an even broader range of surfaces. The bike’s internal derailleur and CD disc brake routing has also been updated with more user-friendly clip-in modular style stops.

As with all Rose bikes, each of these X road going rides will be able to get personalized setups through their online bike configuration system. As for availability, the new road bikes are expected to show up in their online shop this upcoming January/February.

2017 BH Ultralight EVO Disc w/ 790g frame

2017 BH Ultralight EVO carbon disc fork

Ultralight EVO Disc

By blending the 2017 BH Ultralight feathery frame construction with the latest Ultralight road bike with the more recently introduced G7 Disc, the new BH model puts material where it needs to be to handle the altered braking forces while still hitting a 790g claimed frame weight. That’s only 90g more than the standard rim brake model.

The Ultralight bike uses flat mount disc brakes front and rear, allowing the use of either 140mm or 160mm rotors, with 12mm thru axles on both ends. Final specs, pricing and builds won’t be announced until Eurobike (late August), but we have wonderful photos.

Up front the Ultralight employs a tapered headtube with all cables/hoses/wires entering the downtube directly behind it. Modular plugs let your swap group types in the future, or just keep the Ultralight frame clean should you go wireless.

2017 BH Ultralight EVO Disc road bike

For disc brake bikes, it offers other benefits in that the chainstays are already set wide from the base of the BB shell, as BH introduced the BB386 EVO standard to the world, and it’s used here as well, while paired with a 86.5mm wide shell and a 30mm spindle for the stiffest possible combo you can get to date.

2017 BH Ultralight bb30EVO

Thin, shaped seatstays likely help keep the ride comfortable. Like the rim brake model, the Ultralight has no rider weight limit. Geometry is race ready (sloping top tube, 402mm chainstays), favoring fast crit-style riding, yet it’ll accommodate tires up to 30mm wide.

2017 BH Ultralight EVO Disc

They will be giving more build options and the Ultra pricing later this summer.

2017 Jamis Supernova Team and Renegade Cyclocross Bike Review

2017 Jamis Supernova Team carbon cyclocross bike

Supernova Team

Employing the same 2016 platforms, the 2017 Jamis Nova Cyclocross Series is rock solid with not only fresh paint but an updated spec while remaining a great value. The Supernova cyclocross lineup is led by the model (shown above), which gets the Jamis top-level Dyad Plus T700/FRP monocoque carbon fiber frameset, while the carbon Elite model is also (shown below).

Team spec includes American Classic Argent tubeless 15mm front/12mm rear thru-axle wheels, SRAM Force , SRAM Force CX 1×11 group with hydraulic disc brakes stopping 160mm rotors front and rear (rear was 140mm this past year), Fizik Aliante Delta Saddle, and Ritchey WCS 220 stem for $3,999.

2017 Jamis Supernova Elite Carbon cx bike

Next down a tier is the Supernova Elite, which shares the same carbon frame but comes in at $2,799 with SRAM Rival Hydro 1×11 group, Alex rims and Clement tires. The chain though is upgraded to a PC11, cassette grows to an 11-42, both a little better than last year, and also bumps up to a 160mm rear rotor. Carbon Nova models come in five sizes from 51 to 61.

2017 Jamis Nova Pro Alloy cyclocross bike

Pro Alloy

Last in the lineup is the 6061 aluminum Nova Pro with SRAM Apex 1×11 and hydraulic disc brakes.with a $1899.00 MSRP. The Nova comes in six sizes from 48 to 61.

All three Nova models also employ Clement tires, Ritchey cockpits and should hit dealers in late July.

2017 Jamis Renegade gravel adventure road bikes

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 7.0 Testing Review – gets a Flatbar

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 6.0

With Canyon’s addition of the Endurace series with many options priced as low as 850€ sharing the same geometry etc, they felt like it was overlapping a bit with their entry-level aluminum road bike, so the 2017 Canyon Roadlite gets a breath of fresh air. The racier Roadlite range no longer uses drop bars, and has become a fast moving flat bar fitness driven machine.

The Roadlite series is now exclusively available with disc brakes and compact gearing, allowing for the model to be quick and light for either getting around town and staying in shape or getting out for some longer rides. And with light builds and full Shimano drivetrains the new bike won’t hurt your wallet.  Starting with a quick handling 73° head angle and 73.5° seattube, the Roadlite is no slouch. But by bringing the rider position more upright with the move to a 600mm wide flat bar, you get added comfort and still maintain speed.

The Canyon fitness bike delivers some solid performance, with the Shimano drivetrains and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes they offer a lot of bang for your buck. Each of the bikes gets full internal routing, tapered forks, and thin seatstays that claim to tune out some buzz. Plus the alloy frame gets rear rack mounts and together with the carbon steerer fork has fender mounts front and rear.

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 7.0

Roadlite AL 7.0

The top of the revamped range is priced at 1300€ with a claimed weight of just 8.5kg/18.7lb. The 7.0 gets a full Ultegra 2×11 drivetrain with a 11-32 cassette, matched with Acera-level M396 hydraulic disc brakes that are essentially the same as the last generation of Deore brakes. Add in a set of DT Swiss R24 wheels that can be set up tubeless, and a set of the excellent 28mm Continental Grand Prix 4000S tires for a great all-around value. It even gets Canyon’s split leaf spring, shock absorbing VCLS carbon seatpost, Ergon GP2 grips, and VP flat pedals.

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 6.0

Next up is the 1000€ Roadlite AL 6.0 that comes in both standard and women-specific versions with generally the same spec. The get a full 11 speed 105 compact drivetrain again with a hill-friendly 11-32 cassette and the same Acera hydraulic disc brakes. Wheels go to Mavic’s Crossone with 28mm Continental Grand Prix 4000s on the regular bike and SL tires on the women’s version. Claimed weights are still reasonable at around 9.3kg/20.5lb.

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 5.0

The entry Roadlite AL 5.0 also comes in both standard and WMN women’s versions, each for just 800€. They swap in an all alloy fork and Tiagra 10 speed drivetrain to get the cost down, as well as an Altus-level hydraulic brakeset. The still get compact chainsets, but actually go to a wider range 10 speed 11-34 cassette. Wheels and tires are the same, again with smaller wheels and fatter tires for the two smallest women-specific sizes.

2017 Canyon Roadlite AL 6.0 wmn

6.0 WMN

The women’s Roadlite AL WMN bikes come in just a 4 size range adding an XXS up to medium. The women’s XXS & XS use 650B wheels and swap in Schwalbe 35mm Kojak tires in place of the Contis. The standard aluminum Roadlite bikes come in a 6 frame size range from XS-XL, all using 700c wheels.

Endurace CF SLX 8.0 Di2 WMN

series is now way deeper…

Canyon Bicycles already had quite the range of all-day riding road bikes in its stable, but now are stepping it up by bringing the premium frame tech from their Canyon pro team Ultimate bikes over to these everyman epic rides. The Canyon Endurace line focuses on those riders who don’t really want to sacrifice a comfortable ride, but at the same time want a bike they can race if wanted.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX 8.0 Di2 WMN stealth grey
“9.0 SL version”

It’s no mistake to find the ‘race’ label in these Endurace bikes. Even if we are really just weekend warriors, everybody wants to ride a bike that make them feels fast. They recognize, the Endurace are the kinds of road bikes that most of us would probably ride. After 100km+ on a comfortable CF bike, we still want a model that feels like it’s going to get up those final climbs.

The bike takes carbon fiber tuning to that next step, merging comfort and high performance, so that at the end of those long rides we still have fresher legs and can hammer the late climbs, pin it through that last twisty descent, and sprint for the line as we roll back home.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX 9.0 Di2 Road Bike Testing red

Endurace CF series gets way deeper…

Canyon Bicycles has a deep range of all-day road bikes in its Endurace stable, but now are stepping it up by bringing the technology from their team of Ultimate race bikes over to these epic rides. The existing Canyon Endurance line focuses on those of us cyclists who don’t really want to sacrifice a comfortable ride, but at the same time want a bike that we feel like we can race if wanted.

It’s no mistake to find the ‘race’ label in these Canyon bikes. Even if we are really just weekend warriors, everybody wants to ride a bike that make them feels fast. They recognize, these are the kinds of road bikes that most of us would probably ride. After 100km+ on a comfortable bike, we still want a model that feels like it’s going to get up those final climbs.

The Endurace takes CF tuning to that next step, merging comfort and high performance, so that at the end of those long rides we still have fresher legs and can hammer the late climbs, pin it through that last twisty descent, and sprint for the line as we roll back home.
