Juliana Strega C LE NX 170mm Enduro

Juliana Bicycles 2018

Now hot on the heels of brother company Santa Cruz reworking their Nomad, Juliana received her own 170mm enduro bike dubbed the Strega that promises to pedal like a trail bike and descend like a true DH monster.

The Strega is similar to the new Nomad v4, that it employs a two-position Virtual Pivot Point suspension design adapted from Santa Cruz’s long 216mm travel V10 to create what is probably the most aggressive mountain bike developed for women.

Juliana feels that women haven’t had their own options for a long travel bike because the industry hasn’t seen a real need from more aggressive women trail riders. But with plenty of women racing enduro, DH & other gravity disciplines, the Strega says it is about time for women to get their own.

The overhaul of the Nomad was the perfect opportunity for Juliana Bicyles to chime in and say they wanted a version for the ladies too. They recognize that this is pretty niche, but why not when they’ve already got the Nomad molds in hand. What’s different you ask?

Well, the Strega gets the exact same frame as the new 27.5″ Nomad, but sticks to the smaller three frame sizes only – XS, S & M. So, that means the same two-position high or low gravity-inspired progressive VPP suspension design, with its grease port equipped alloy linkage. It shares the same 65° headtube for thrashing down the mountain and 74.5° seat tube & dropper post for climbing back up to do it all again.

But Juliana attention to detail for women makes its way out in suspension tuned for a typically lighter range of smaller riders. The shared frame already gets low standover height, but the Juliana probably will benefit even more from the option to set the bike up in either high or low stances with the flip chip at the lower rear shock mount.

The Strega also pairs standover with frame size-specific dropper seatposts, so smaller riders get the extension they need to pedal back up the hills without hauling around more weight (150mm Reverb on M, 125mm on S & 100mm on XS.) The build kits also get adapted out to better fit most female riders with contact points selected by Juliana’s own dedicated female product testers.

Drivetrain on the new Strega is 1x only, so gearing is key so for the most part the Strega gets a small 30T chainring when paired with 11 speeds & a 32T with Eagle 12 speed setups. This really is a bike that will benefit from SRAM’s super-wide Eagle cassettes to be able to handle both going up & down again & again.

The 27.5″ Strega is available in two carbon levels – C & CC – in that Wicked green. They include a bolt-on (upper downtube) shuttle guard for tossing off the back of your pick-up, a standard downtube bash protector, and the little rear shock fender. Complete Strega C bikes start at $4500 with a NX setup and climb to at least $8200 for the Strega CC with XX1 Eagle which gets a claimed weight of 29.1lb (13.2kg).

There’s also the option to upgrade your builds with Santa Cruz’s new Reserve carbon enduro wheels that actually get the same carbon warranty asa the frames.

The bikes with full carbon main frame & rear triangles (+alloy links) will be available from June 15 and come with a lifetime warranty, ready for anything from big mountain trail days to trips to shred the bike park.

The 2017 Juliana Joplin 29 Carbon S8 is ridiculously fun. The original Joplin model redefined what people thought a 29er could be. This latest version breaks the mold all over again.

Yes, the Joplin makes for one fine cross-country/endurance machine. With its light-yet-stiff carbon frame, efficient VPP3 rear suspension, and it’s wheel option, this bike can be an absolute race weapon—but the Joplin is more than that.

juliana reverb-post

The Joplin has always been, to reduce this thing to a single word, called fun. As in the uncontrollable-giggling-spontaneous-high-fiving kind of fun. Juliana cranked the knob on that particular trait to 11 this year with a ground-up redesign that increases the bike’s composure on descents, adds a bit more small-bump suppleness to the mix and improves its handling in tight turns.

The new Joplin also gives you the option of running different diameter wheels. If you’re looking for quick acceleration and a nimble feel, go 29er. If you’re wanting extra traction and a more forgiving ride over roots and babyhead rocks, go 27.5+. It’s your choice.

Is the Joplin a cross-country racer? Sure. A trail bike? Absolutely. Is it fun? Oh, hell yes.

So for this Carbon-C Juliana model in particular, the frame is every bit as stiff and strong as their top-tier carbon CC-level frames, but weighs about 280 grams more, due to the use of some lighter, stronger, and more expensive carbon fiber. Using this top-level Carbon material in key places allowed them to use less material overall, which is what shaves off more than half a pound from the frame.

2017 Juliana Furtado 2.0 Carbon CC XT Build

Juliana Furtado 2.0 CC XT

Part Furtado endurance racer, part fun trail bike…

price: $6199 save 0% weight: 28.19 LBS / 12.79 KG

The 2017 Juliana Furtado 2.0 CC  arrives on the scene with longer, lower, and slacker geometry than its lauded predecessor with a nimble back end and aggressive pedaling platform that redefines the limitations of a trail bike. Reigning as the gold standard by which all other trail bikes are measured, the Furtado saw a few updates with it’s mid-season release that further widened the gap to the rest of the herd. While this particular version rocks a kit featuring a Shimano XT two-by 11 drivetrain, Shimano XT hydraulic brakes, a dropper seatpost, and hard-charging RaceFace Arc 24 rims.

2017 juliana furtado spearmint

The shifts in geometry appear most obviously in the slacker head tube and steeper seat tube in comparison to the Furtado 1.0. The head tube loses a whole degree, dropping from 68 to 67, which brings it more in line with the previous Roubion model while expanding the Furtado capability when things possibly get steeper and or truly gnarly. The steeper seat tube angle is equally impactful, with the forward-oriented position of the saddle making for better leverage on the pedals while grinding up climbs or cranking out speed over long stretches of flowy singletrack.

spe_d6

Compared to its predecessor, the Furtado also features a longer reach, lower bottom bracket, 5mm more travel, increased dropper range, stubbier chainstays, and a wider rear axle. This stack of alterations means that it pedals harder, takes bigger bites out of terrain, and provides a wider seat height range for aggressively tackling double-digit grades on either side of zero.

The Virtual Pivot Point 3 (VPP3) suspension also sees some changes in the Furtado. The most immediately obvious is the extra 5mm of travel, but the tuning has also been revised. Where the old Furtado suspension curve described a deep “U,” the new VPP3 curve resembles a flattened check mark, with less dramatic ramping on either end of the travel arc.

The results are that, during the initial stroke, VPP3 provides increased small bump compliance to keep the tires glued to the trail for more traction across lumpy terrain and root-strewn grades. It also maintains that firm feel of the predecessor during accelerations while jockeying for position off the line or clearing a shelf at the crux of a climb. When paired with a Fox Evol air can, the ramp-up arc doesn’t dramatically alter as the shock compresses, so the pedaling platform stays consistent across travel with less wallowing, bob, and bottoming out—even while the axle path turns rearward as travel increases to absorb big hits.

juliana furtado

This CC-level carbon frame is every bit as stiff and strong as Juliana’s C-level frames, but weighs about 280 grams less, due to the use of some lighter, stronger, and more expensive carbon fiber. Using this key material in various places allowed them to use less material overall, which is what shaves off more than half a pound from it’s frame.

Both 2.0 triangles are constructed on the Juliana as whole, monocoque pieces, which also contributes to keeping weight low because the carbon material can be wrapped through junctures and around joints. This eliminates the artificial weak points of bonded frames and actually requires less material in the process. While being cured, the frame is compacted from inside and out, a final step that virtually eliminates any extra material and resin pooling, resulting in more structural integrity and, of course, additional weight savings.

This Juliana stack of alterations means that it pedals harder, takes bigger bites out of terrain, and provides a wider seat height range for aggressively tackling double-digit grades on either side of zero.

The Virtual Pivot Point 3 (VPP3) suspension also sees some changes in the Furtado. The most immediately obvious is the extra 5mm of travel, but the tuning has also been revised. Where the old suspension curve described a deep “U,” VPP3 curve resembles a flattened check mark, with less dramatic ramping on either end of the travel arc.

Juliana employs industry-leading frame construction, although this version uses a slightly higher grade for it’s higher end Carbon CC frame. This requires less material to achieve the same strength, while it carries a bit less weight, but in every other aspect the CC carbon holds the same high standards as their Carbon level frames. The key is you get a frame that’s stiff and strong.

Both 2.0 triangles are constructed on the Juliana as whole, monocoque pieces, which also contributes to keeping weight low because the Carbon CC material can be wrapped through junctures and around joints. This eliminates the artificial weak points of bonded frames and actually requires less material in the process. While being cured, the Furtado frame is compacted from inside and out, a final step that virtually eliminates any extra material and resin pooling, resulting in more structural integrity and, of course, additional weight savings.

The 2017 Juliana Furtado CC 2.0 is not only designed for the rigors of trail and enduro-mountain riding, it actually enjoys huge gratitude over them all as the most popular Juliana bicycle in the lineup. When your favorite trails are filled with berms, tight switchbacks, and long, hand-numbing descents, bikes like the Furtado are key to taking them a level higher. The Furtado is a capable machine that can tackle all of that and more without taking itself too seriously.

For the update, Juliana made slight alterations to its geometry and the links in the VPP suspension to create a bike that’s better equipped than ever to work with you on the trails.

The Furtado’s overall strength and stiffness are further enhanced with the mechanic-friendly, oversized 15mm collet-style hardware and the Boost 148mm rear thru-axle.

They also made the decision to include a threaded bottom bracket on the Furtado. Abandoning the inconsistencies of Pressfit cups, as Furtado engineers trust the mechanical dependability of a threaded BB to give you the peace of mind of a stiff, creak-free ride.

Along with the new Furtado, they are launching their “Going Places” 3 part video series which features different ambassadors and their guiding companies across the globe.

2017 Juliana Joplin Carbon CC 29 X01 Ultraviolet

2017 Juliana Joplin Carbon CC XX1 enve

Pricing $6499 – Weight 26.08lbs / 11.83kg

Partial Joplin endurance racer, partial rowdy trail bike…

The 2017 Juliana Joplin CC 29 is ridiculously fun. The original model redefined what people thought a 29er could be. This latest Joplin version breaks the mold all over again.

Yes, the Joplin makes for one fine cross-country/endurance machine. With its light-yet-stiff carbon frame, efficient VPP® rear suspension, and 29-inch wheel option, this bike can be an absolute race weapon—but the Joplin is more than that.

The Joplin has always been, to reduce this thing to a single word, fun.

Juliana Joplin Carbon CC 27.5+ X01 2017

The new Joplin also gives you the option of running either 29er or 27.5+ wheels.

This CC-level carbon frame is every bit as stiff and strong as Juliana’s C-level frames, but weighs about 280 grams less, due to the use of some lighter, stronger, and more expensive carbon fiber. Using this material in key places allowed them to use less material overall, which is what shaves off more than half a pound from the frame.

The 2016 Nevis, in the Women’s only XC 27.5 hardtail guise, was literally put on a training program last winter and has returned leaner, meaner, and ready to race. Juliana lengthened the cockpit just a bit on the 27.5, which allows you to run a more modern bar/stem combo, thus resulted with amazing handling. They also optimized the carbon layup through the seatstays and seat tube, and kept the seatpost size at 27.2mm, which adds some compliance you’ll appreciate when you’re 80 miles in to a 100-mile race. All the cables route internally –everything has either a tunnel or an easy-to-route cable guide to make the Women’s Nevis 27.5 as hassle-free as possible.

2016 Juliana Roubion 2.0 CC Matte Lavender Frameset

Juliana Roubion 2.0 Carbon enve xx1

Roubion – stonewashed lavender

price: $1,732.00 For Sale save 40%

The 2016 Juliana Roubion CC 2.0 is not only designed for the rigors of enduro and all-mountain riding, it actually enjoys triumphing over them all season long as the official bike for the hard-charging ladies of Juliana-SRAM on the Enduro World Series circuit. When your favorite trails are filled with berm roosting, tight switchbacks, and long, hand-numbing descents, bikes like the Roubion are key to taking them a level higher. The Roubion is a capable machine that can tackle all of that and more without taking itself too seriously.

For the update, Juliana made slight alterations to its geometry and the links in the VPP suspension to create a bike that’s better equipped than ever to work with you on the trails.

Juliana Roubion 2.0 CC Matte Lavender Frame 2016

The Roubion’s overall strength and stiffness are further enhanced with the mechanic-friendly, oversized 15mm collet-style hardware and the Boost 148mm rear thru-axles.

They also made the decision to include a threaded bottom bracket on the Roubion. Abandoning the inconsistencies of Pressfit cups, as Roubion engineers trust the mechanical dependability of a threaded BB to give you the peace of mind of a stiff, creak-free ride.

Along with the new Roubion, they are launching their “Going Places” 3 part video series which features different ambassadors and their guiding companies across the globe.

The series will continue in the coming weeks with Anka Martin of Housemartin and Melissa Munro of Trans-Provence!

2017 Juliana Joplin Carbon CC 29 XX1 Enve

2017 Juliana Joplin Carbon CC 27.5+ XX1 enve

Part Joplin endurance racer, part rowdy trail bike

price: $9799.00 save 0%

The 2017 Juliana Joplin CC 29 is ridiculously fun. The original model redefined what people thought a 29er could be. This latest Joplin version breaks the mold all over again.

Yes, the Joplin makes for one fine cross-country/endurance machine. With its light-yet-stiff carbon frame, efficient VPP® rear suspension, and 29-inch wheel option, this bike can be an absolute race weapon—but the Joplin is more than that.

The Joplin has always been, to reduce this thing to a single word, fun.

Juliana Joplin Carbon CC 27.5+ X01 2017

The new Joplin also gives you the option of running either 29er or 27.5+ wheels.

Juliana Bicycles 2015 – Joplin 29er And Furtado 27.5 Carbon Models

Juliana Bikes Abby Hippely on the Juliana Juno

Surprisingly, Santa Cruz Bicycle designers were recently able to take the unprecedented step of lowering prices on some of their carbon frames, down to nearly what the aluminum models go for. The engineers were able to pull this off by getting creative with both their process in carbon fiber layup along with the complete build specs. And thankfully, they have applied the same price point carbon into the sister brand Juliana line up as well.

To to clarify for those wondering, the only difference between the two frames is the weight. Visually, and through strength testing, the frames retain the same ride quality, and stiffness but will cost you considerably less.

In addition to complete carbon builds starting at $3,399, Juliana Bikes has also launched a slew of new colors, and builds options. Furtado Carbon C X01 Enve 2015For the upcoming season, the 2015 Furtado Carbon R 27.5 will not only be available in the fresh color of Hella Yella, but is available for the first time with either an X01 or XX1 1×11 drive system. With the entry level carbon, the lower end build will retail for a mere $3,599 that employs a smart mixture of Shimano XT with Deore level parts, along with other SRAM components mixed in. Purchasing Details Here.

With purchase details as well for the Carbon S priced at $4,699, More Info..

You can now  buy the frame only for $2,899, if you prefer to build your bike from the ground up.
Juliana Joplin Carbon 2015
The Siren Red Joplin is also available as a frame only for $2,899, with the entry level carbon S model retailing for $3,899, and online configure details here. Like the other models, the lighter carbon frame can be dressed up with both X01 or XX1, along with the optional Enve wheel upgrade.

Juliana Juno D 2015Just south of the carbon pricing, there are several different aluminum single pivot offerings, which help make shredding available to the masses. Featuring a mix of SLX and SRAM components, the 130mm travel Apple Green Juno D is available for Purchase Here, starting at $2,599.

If you prefer to swap parts over from another build, you can even pick up a frame only option for $1,299.Juliana origin 2015
With just 4″ of travel, the Royal Purple Origin D is the gateway full suspension model. Starting at just $2,099, with Purchase details Here, this is essentially the original Juliana model adapted for 27.5″ wheels.

What sets these two single pivot models apart from their carbon VPP counter parts, is the fact of now being offered in the extra small size. The exceptionally low stand over and smaller top tube, will make it possible for riders 4’10 and up to enjoy the trails in comfort. Juliana Nevis 2015
Last, but certainly not least, is the updated Nevis.

Designed exclusively for the Juliana brand, this brand new hardtail is designed to fit riders 4’8″ and up, and features a XC/Trail oriented geometry that’s been designed around 27.5″ wheels. It utilizes a smaller diameter 27.2mm seatpost for more compliance, and is available in three sizes: XS, S, M. Completes start at only $1,699. Purchase Details Here..

Roubion Launch France
The last big announcement is new carbon and aluminum handlebars, that are produced in the same factory as their carbon frames. Offered in a 720mm width, with a 7mm rise, the carbon bars will be spec’d as standard equipment on the Roubion, Furtado, and Joplin builds from XT/X01 up.

An aluminum bar with similar dimensions will be spec’d on all other models, except for the XS Nevis and Origin. These bikes will continue to utilize the compact bar and grip system debuted last year.

Roubion XX1 2015

The new 150mm travel Roubion was announced earlier this year and did not receive any major changes.  Only Santa Cruz is offering an entry level carbon version at the moment, so builds for this premium steed start at $6,599.

Juliana Roubion Enve XX1

A DREAMY WOMEN’S JULIANA BIKE WITH NEARLY EVERYTHING!

Juliana Roubion Enve XX1After a month of teasing and over a year of anticipation, Juliana has finally launched their newest model in France, dubbed the Roubion.

They have named it after a picturesque mountain town in the heart of France, it has “all the brute of a Bronson in the spirit of a Juliana,” which is to say it’s a Bronson with a great new paint-job and several lady specific components.
Juliana Roubion Bike Launch FranceStarting from the front, the handlebar is a custom affair that enables the company to spec significantly thinner than average grips. Roubion 2015 saddle
The handlebar and grips are complimented by a custom Juliana saddle, which ranks among one of the most comfortable seats many a reviewer has ever ridden.Juliana Roubion Carbon Cane Creek skock
As previously mentioned, the Roubion geometry is essentially a Bronson, so all the words you’ve read about that supple 150mm VPP platform, also apply here.

What makes this model different from any in the Juliana or even Santa Cruz line up, is that it’s the first time we’ve seen the Cane Creek Double Air come as a standard option.

Well known in social circles, the engineering and product team at Santa Cruz have high levels of skill out on the trail, and they like to outfit their production models with the same kit they enjoy, so it’s no surprise to see some new shock offerings available.

2015 Roubion Carbon XX1Another new interesting spec change for the Roubion is the inclusion of a 1x drivetrain. Up until now, all the company’s assortment of products have come standard with a triple (with a custom option for a double on some models.)

In fact, this model is only available with a 1x, could this be a sign of things to come?

US PRICE will break down something like this..

Roubion Frame Only w/ Fox Float CTD adjust: $2,899
The same but with a Cane Creek DBA Shock: $3,099

Complete Roubion Specs:
Roubion Carbon X01 with Rockshox Pike RCT3 150mm Solo Air: $6,599, purchase/info

Roubion Carbon XX1 w/ Rockshox Pike RCT3  150mm Solo Air: $8,299
Roubion C X01 Enve w/ same Rockshox Pike RCT3 150mm Solo Air: $8,599
Roubion C XX1 Enve w/ the same as above: $10,299

Between the shock, wheels, and drive trains options, the ride is not cheap. It’s the most expensive setup in their catalog, and supersedes the price of the brands former hallmark model, the Furtado Premiero, by nearly four thousand dollars.

Why is this a big deal? Well, it’s the first womens specific mtb to ever be available stock in such a high end trim.

Roubion Launch FranceYou can order the 2015 Enduro ride starting June 15th and expect an early July 2014 delivery.

Juliana Joplin Carbon Primeiro 29er Bike

Juliana Joplin Primeiro

Carbon fiber, 29-inch wheels, and Virtual Pivot Point suspension is a combination that’s satisfied the need of dirt worshipers for close to a half-decade. But, if you were of the fairer sex, you were stuck changing multiple parts in the hope that a bike not designed with your needs in mind would work. Juli Furtado is making sure that this issue no longer exists with the Juliana Joplin Carbon Primeiro.

What was once a lone model in a sea of testosterone-fueled mountain bikes, Juliana is now a new division of Santa Cruz, led by non-other than Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee and multi-championship winning Juli Furtado. This means that each model meets her expectations — not Sir mix-alot. If you take a look at the saddle, bars, and cranks of this Joplin Carbon Primeiro you’ll see that they’re sized proportionally for female riders.

This allows you to enjoy the benefits of a carbon fiber 29er out of the box. One of those composite advantages, aside from the obvious — weight — is it allows the Joplin frame to offer superior line-holding stiffness. The front triangle is constructed as once piece. Rather than have components produced separately, and then bonded or wrapped, the carbon fibers are continuous around tube junctions to distribute loads and absorb impact energy better.

Juliana joplin linkage

Nice cable exit details.

One thing that you can’t see without cutting the frame in half is that it looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside. There’s nothing there except smooth carbon, this actually prevents stress risers in failure prone areas of the frame. For that reason too, there are no riveted or bonded-on cable and hose guides–they’re incorporated into the original layup.

That layup provides stiff and solid mounting points for the latest generation of VPP rear suspension. The upper and lower links flatten out the shock rate and provide a more active feel to the early part of the axle path. The suspension allows the rear wheel to move up and back as you ride over a bump, and it balances the downward force of pedaling with the pulling force of the chain through its link configuration and axle path. The resulting movement makes it easier to roll over a bump or through a dip, and the suspension doesn’t change whether you’re in the saddle or not.

The Joplin has a carbon fiber upper link that shaves weight and enhances lateral stiffness. It’s counterpart on the bottom is alloy, and it has easily-serviceable grease ports. The pivots for both links have stout 15mm locking collet axle-pins so they won’t creak or loosen, and they run on intricately-sealed bearings that should last the life of the frame.

Juliana joplin bar

The VPP suspension of this Juliana yields 100mm of smooth travel damped by a Fox CTD rear shock with Kashima — a lightweight, reliable shock that features an intuitive interface for simple, on-the-fly suspension tuning. It has three distinct settings; a firm ‘Climbing’ setting, medium ‘Trail’ setting, and a plush ‘Descend’ setting. This keeps operation straightforward and intuitive for beginners and experts alike.
Complementing the CTD rear shock is a 120mm Fox 32 Float CTD front shock with Kashima. Like the 142 x 12mm rear axle, the fork sports a 15mm thru axle for stiffness. A hand-laced and tensioned wheelset composed of DT 350 hubs, 14/15 butted spokes, and WTB i19 rims spin around those axles. For tires on the Joplin, fast-rolling Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 tubeless tires provide a nice mix of speed and grip.
Juliana Joplin rear cog

The Drivetrain is a 3×10 Shimano XT group, including the front and rear derailleur, shifters, cranks, and cassette. Stopping the Joplin are a set of 160mm rotor Shimano XT brakes. Finishing off the build are her own Compact handlebar setup, with an Easton EA70 stem, and Thomson seat post, all with a Primeiro saddle perched atop of it.
