Take the Highline!
If you’ve been high on the scene, you’ve probably seen Margus Riga’s work, as the well known Canadian MTB photographer’s work is now prominently displayed on Sombrio’s new Forest Collection which includes the men’s Renegade jersey ($55), the women’s Vista 3/4 jersey ($70), and accessories including gloves and hats. The Artist Collaboration pieces use a sublimated print of an actual Riga photo with Cool Wik and Chill Mesh (Vista jersey) fabric.
Or be a Sombrio Badass…
Guys will be able to pair the Renegade jersey with either the new Sombrio Highline (top) or Badass (just above) shorts. Stepping in as their lightest men’s option, the 4-way stretch Highline is designed to be just as durable as their other options but with a more airy feel. Details include laser cut ventilation, a rear stow and two front pockets, and a premium adjustable waist with laser cut rubber tabs and a reinforced velcro two snap closure for $110. The $100 Badass borrows a number of features from the favorite Pinner and offers a 4 way stretch fabric with a DWR coating, seamless crotch panels, and a velcro waist adjuster. The Badass 15″ inseam and standard fit offers better integration with kneepad fit while the Highline goes with a 13.5″ inseam and slim fit.
Sombrio’s Vapor jacket steps in to keep the rain off your shoulders with a 10,000mm waterproof 4 way stretch fabric with a DWR finish and fully taped seams, because when you get as much bad torrential rain as the Pacific Northwest, good wet weather gear is essential. Built with a non-removable helmet compatible hood, the jacket offers 3 zippered pockets and an open back yoke for ventilation at $198. With matching Highline and Badass colors as well.
Not to be left out, the women’s collection includes a number of new pieces including their own Epik Collection with the $55 Rise N’ Climb tank and $110 Summit Shorts (their women’s version of the Highline). The ladies also get a new Sombrio Squall jacket with a lightweight, packable design .

Keep yourself from being stuck inside, grab a base layer and zip the De Marchi Milano on over it for three-layer protection from the worst winter conditions. They employ a sandwich construction to bond a Milano windproof outer layer to a soft mid-layer, both of which protect an insulating fleece lining for a trio of anti-weather layers that won’t make the Milano feel bulky.
The fabric’s elastane content keeps the Milano from inhibiting your movement as you ride while the storm flap zipper keeps out cold air. All the while the Milano rounds things out with three rear pockets to provide easy access to ride essentials.
The setup designates this as one of their warmest jackets, constructed to perform its best in temperatures ranging from 23 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit, and the form-fitting cut leaving just enough space for a base layer as conditions require.

2015 De Marchi Classic Cycling Products
Bringing the conception of the Classic jacket to new heights, this versatile, women’s specific winter top offers windproof protection with mechanical stretch and multiple layering options packed in a sleek, minimalist look for the ultimate cold weather insulation. Featuring De Marchi’s proprietary ThermaShield windproof stretch membrane for effective insulation and contoured shaping for that De Marchi impeccable fit.
Even though we’d like to limit our winter riding to bright, clear afternoons when the mercury registers Fahrenheit temperatures in the mid- to high-40s, our schedules don’t always afford us that luxury. De Marchi addresses this, providing winter-weight armor for those determined to not let overcast, inclement weather keep them off the bike. Though the conditions around may suggest otherwise, your microclimate in the softshell will think it’s already spring.
The jacket relies on ThermaShield material, which somehow manages to appease all of our cycling demands, regardless of how irrationally demanding we are. ThermaShield’s name gives away the two functions we most immediately associate with this kind of jacket: it insulates a cyclist’s microclimate under a layer of protection from the windy conditions and icy temperatures of winter. While this material isn’t stretchy on its own, De Marchi uses fabric that’s been woven to provide a mechanical stretch, so it conforms to your body and moves with you in the saddle.
When you slip it on, you’ll understand the need for this mechanical stretch, because the jacket is cut to straddle the line between racing and layering. There isn’t any excess material flapping on the arms or hanging from your front while you’re stretched out in the saddle, but it provides just enough room for a base layer when conditions demand.
The jacket’s form-fitting construction is finished off with rear pockets that can be accessed through zippers on either side and a zippered chest pocket. The elastic cuffs, tall collar, and exaggerated rear hem ensure that there are no gaps in coverage.

A Note on Wear and Tear on this Premium Fleece:
This fabric is a premium, soft, looped fleece fabric from Italy. How you wear and treat this luxurious ladies garment will affect the life of the fabric. While this material is a performance, wicking, quick-dry material, you must take care to prevent the fabric from matting. In cases of constant use, such as driving with a seat belt or backpacking, you may want to consider the effect on the life of the fabric. Matting could occur, effecting the loft and appearance of your jacket. You might want to consider removing it when wearing a shoulder harness for your seat belt or backpack.

- [main panels] Softshell, [underarms and sides] Super Roubaix Zero
2015 Women’s Bike Clothing
Treat yourself right with a jacket that outperforms mother natures wrath. The Velocio creatives know all to well what it takes to pull this off, which is why the Zero product line was developed high in the alpine regions of Italy. Which has also given the Velocio label, a favorite spotlight here at 29erCafe.. because we like style, but great style that performs.
As stated above we are suckers for style, and the Zero has it in droves. Clean lines, subtle colors, and a splash of flair with the Zero’s signature color on the collar and right cuff. Also the Zero’s Softshell armor is functional, because they paired it with Super Roubaix insulation, and a race-layering fit. Don’t be caught unprepared, after all Spring is just around the corner.
A barrier was created between the elements and your body’s microclimate, while the microfiber fleece interior in the Velocio setup keeps you well-insulated. The underarms and sides of the jacket are made from Super Roubaix, so they also insulate but are highly breathable to help regulate your microclimate in case you overheat during a hard effort.
To finalize the Zero they employed a cut with bike racers in mind. Meaning no unwanted material flapping about in the wind, though it does allow for layering when conditions warrant it. The front has two hand pockets and an internal flap that runs the length of the Zero’s two-way zipper. The back features a strap for attaching an extra light and two vertical zippers that allow access to pockets in a base layer or jersey underneath. Reflective elements throughout will also help keep you visible in darker lighting.
model: FUN STAYING WARM
For the broad spectrum of lightweight wind jackets out there, most of them will only provide you with limited protection from any rain drops, but the 2013 Women’s Castelli model might surprise you with the many features in store. The Caterina has all the goods in place to be more than up to handling the foulest of weather with some simple multitasking. This is also why designers made sure this material would also be waterproof enough to provide plenty of protection on its own, dedicated completely for rain and wind protection on that inevitable surprise deluge day.

- All 3 of the back pockets have small eyelet holes to drain water on those extra-wet days out there.

Softshell – Women’s
Elite – Men’s
Pearl Izumi has been a strong clothing company, standing the test of time, economy and trend, or whatever for the past 20 plus years.
I had been using P.I’s clothing way back, in the past maybe ten to fifteen years ago. Back then I felt like there quality was not bad, there styles just average or par for what was going on in that mtb era. I kinda fell out of love with the company, because I guess I got board with their styling. I felt like there were a lot of fashionable products to choose from in the same price ranges, so I kinda lost touch with their getup.
Fast forward five years to 29erCafe 2011.
I was turned on by a friend to a rainjacket. As I put it on, there was a mirror nearby, wow I instantly new they had stepped up their game a bit, a significant bit. So obviously I wanted to know for myself how the new PRO Softshell version performed, not just by the tags hanging from the sleeve.
So I have put it to the PRO to the test all winter. I experimented with layering at certain temperatures and wind conditions, to not layering.
This jacket has been amazingly versatile on my 29er mtb, and cross bike this winter. The winter has not only concluded with, not only going into the winter knowing they had stepped up their game in the style department, but they stepped up their game technically as well.
I have been currently been using the Pearl Izumi PRO, with 29er-Cafe since last October.
This product has been awesome!
This is one those articles of clothing that you just want wear everywhere.
I have had so many people compliment me on my red jacket! 🙂
Pricing for the PRO is retail listed online at $224.00
Thanks for designing some sweet duds.
Thanks For Reading, 29er-Cafe
